Daily Inspiration: Meet Tiffanny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffanny.

Hi Tiffanny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
HAIII! ☆ my name is Tiffanny Medina, also known by my nicknames, tofu, or taro! I am a multifaceted artist and work in both traditional and digital mediums. I am most known for my semi realistic futurism work which I would describe as metal bodies sharing stories of melancholy from space. Each piece includes a prompt, title and listing of songs or albums that directly influenced the work. Electronic music and cyber tech futurism are fragments that I have captivated in my artwork. The rapid growth of technology, now deeply woven into our lives, has transformed our relationship with nature; stealing our focus and memories of the earth that once nurtured us. Aesthetically, wires circuits and digital elements are a central focus in my work. My inspiration solely comes from humanity- artists who inspire me musically and visually. In this current day and age, we are witnessing the advancement of technology become intertwined with the essence of what it means to be human. My goal is to create an auditory, visual, and physical experience through each piece, in hopes it will resonate with the viewer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a child art was fun and the perfect way for me to express myself with no shame or guilt, purely for the sake of creating. As I grew older and became more self-conscious, I grew to put unnecessary ambitious standards on myself and my art. It became more of a means to show my worth, rather than expression. I resented myself. In turn, I resented my art, and I would go through prolonged periods of time where I could not bring myself to create anything because I was doubtful of my skills. Each obstacle that I put in front of myself taught me lessons on persistence which has helped me grow.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We forget who our original frameworks were, those that came before us, and our natural systems. Like the organic threads of mycelium in the roots of the Earth, we rely on each other for support and connection, whether that be for resources, warnings of danger, compassion, and financial aid. Through this symbiotic network, we create space for our ecosystem to flourish. Our ecosystem, our garden, our community requires intentional care and attention just as we tend to each relationship that sustains us. However, we are bearing the tradeoff brought by the leading technology’s industrialism, individualism. Our roots are being torn apart and secluded in pursuit of synthetic creations, to chase consumerism, constant dopamine, and dreams of unfathomable wealth. This systematic cycle is increasingly draining us of our growth, communication, and the capacity to reciprocate care, leaving us isolated. Well known manufactured systems do not promote personal growth, creativity or the breaking of any of those structures that confine us. Through my work, I hope to inspire that revolutionary change. To remind us to nurture nature once again.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue creating compelling narratives, inspired by music and events relevant to current social issues. Like my piece VOT, inspired by the Incredible artist Vot, whose album explores themes of humanity, technology, and liberation. The song “4044” sets the period where an android prototype named VOT gains the ability to feel human emotion. Her cries for humanity echoes throughout the album, and the emotional depth of that piece resonates with me profoundly. I would love to create more activist work like hers and use my storytelling to reach larger audiences to bring awareness about the current political climate, because art provokes thought and is political. I plan to contribute to making changes and stand up for what I believe in to protect and give voice to my community.
