Daily Inspiration: Meet Tiffany Allison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Allison.

Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Art is part of who I am. It is in my roots and feeds my growth. As a child, I performed gymnastics and dance. As I grew, I turned to performing music, painting, and swing dancing. However, as an adult with children now, I do not have as much time for group activities. Also, with children, it was hard to paint due to the mess. I had to turn to another creative outlook.

This is when I found photography. I started with a beginner, using, a DSLR camera just taking photos of my family about 2 years ago. After all, who can resist taking all those cute photos of their kids? Then from there, I just started expanding out to family, friends, and new clients. I truly enjoy having a creative outlet to express myself and bring joy to others.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, not at all. The road has been full of obstacles, as are most things in life worth pursuing. Initially, learning was my first curve on the road. It takes time and experience. But, then COVID hit. This significantly delayed my initiating photography in general. COVID just shut down everything for me. So, I worked on learning how to set up a website and some other basics during the time of COVID chaos.

However, since COVID has calmed, I have worked to try to build my clientele and portfolio. This is also a process and takes time. Nothing worth anything comes to you without work. But, in my opinion, the end product is worth everything.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My art is bold, emotional, and colorful. I am proud of how it has developed over the past year or two and excited that I am developing to incorporate a storytelling style. I work hard to help my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera while also making poses look natural and in the moment. For me, this has been a journey with multiple challenges in learning programs, settings, lighting, how to set up a website/business, and more. I had spent hours taking free courses, reading, watching Youtube videos, joining photography groups for peers to help, and more. I have learned that you grow from trial and error along with practice, practice, practice.

Practice definitely may not make us perfect, but it makes us better and helps us learn. I am constantly still working to perfect new skills. But if you truly enjoy something and put the work into it, it leads to rewarding results. I just want the world to know I work hard to bring forth and capture wonderful moments. I try to do this not only through my business as a photographer but as a physical therapist who treats cancer and amputee patients. I would LOVE the opportunity to work with more cancer patients and amputees within the photography field of work.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have not taken any major risks, just multiple little ones. I believe, that the risk of losing my time and the money I can afford to lose is well worth trying to make art I (and others) can enjoy.

I do not believe in placing clients or myself in danger but in giving a good experience with great photos for memory. I do believe that with any risk that anyone takes, they must weigh the pros and cons. They must ask themselves, is it worth it? Is it worth the money loss? Is it worth my time? And so on.
