Daily Inspiration: Meet Yesenia Michel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yesenia Michel

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always wanted to be a YouTuber or Instagram influencer. I would watch some my favorite creators and always wished that I could be doing something like that as well. I didn’t have money to buy the fancy cameras or studio lights, so that dream always felt so unattainable. It wasn’t until TikTok came out and made it a little bit easier for people like me to start making content. All I needed was my phone and a little bit of courage.

After my son was born I got postpartum depression, so getting ready and getting dressed was something that became so difficult for me. I decided to be my own motivation and start getting up, getting dressed and post my daily outfits. I was trying to find myself, my style after becoming a mom. It has turned into a hobby that I absolutely love. When you become a parent everything becomes about your kids so it’s really hard to find something that is just for you.

It’s been two years since I started my journey as an influencer and I have gained so many friends and just an amazing community!
I was really shy and always wondered what the people I went to school with would think or say, but I can gladly say I no longer care.
I post my daily outfits, fashion finds, and I do it for a mom out there who thinks she should dress a certain way just because she is a mom. I absolutely love when people compliment my outfits or ask me where I got it from, or tell me I influenced them to buy something I shared. It brings me so much joy.

I am nowhere near where I want to be, it’s very hard to make content while being a wife and a mom of two, but I am building a community and I am a firm believer that good things come to those who believe, better things come to those who are patient and the best things come to those who don’t give up.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been easy, it’s very discouraging sometimes. Spending two to three hours making a video, editing it and for it to not do well is a real dream crusher. It’s also really hard to find the time to make content.

The days are just not long enough when you are a parent. There are always so many things and responsibilities that need to be taken care of before I can put all my focus into my videos.

It’s also not just filming, editing, and posting. You have to see what’s new, what’ people want to see, what’s trending, the algorithm, captions, hashtags! It’s a lot! I get discouraged at least twice a month but I motivate myself again and keep going. I have dreams and goals.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fashion, beauty, and lifestyle content creator. I make content for moms who didn’t loose all the baby weight and women who are curvy who think they have to hide their bodies and have to dress a certain way or try new trends because it only looks good on skinny women. I like to show my imperfect body and skin and still show up with confidence.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, becoming a first time mom during a pandemic really changes you. My son was born in May 2020 everything was so uncertain, so many people were dying, vaccines weren’t available yet. It was a really tough time and being home with a newborn while the world was changing led to my postpartum depression. We were in quarantine, I had no reason to get up, get dressed up because I couldn’t leave my house. I had a baby to protect so doing anything for me was not an option, it was all about staying home and protecting those who were most fragile.
