Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric (713-E) Gaskin.
Eric, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Entering my adult life, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. But I knew how to make money. I was creative in the way I made money. One thing I did know, was how to work. I spent my first 3 years in college as a Civil Engineer major. But in 2015, I started my business in fashion with my friend and my cousin. It grew so fast and heavy on me that before the summer of 2017, I found myself completely out of school. In that same year, same season, I started my music career. It’s very hard to say how, but God really shifted my focus and desires/values, and it was no question that artistry was my of fulfilling my purpose. I worked certain jobs that I can look back on and appreciate all that they taught me and the skills I was able to transfer to my entrepreneurial lifestyle. Since then, my business has expanded to a full production company (Immense Fortune) and I’ve been living my dream ever since. I released my debut Rap album “Summertime in Houston 2” this past September. Needless to say, I’m a very blessed and happy individual.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Where do I even start? I battled my own fear. I battled my parent’s and family’s opinions. I battled questionable friendships and relationships. I worked at jobs I really did not want to be at. I felt like nobody understood me for a very long time! However, all of these struggles made me a very strong man, and I used each struggle as a way to build my brands, my mindset, and my future.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an artist first. Yes, I’m an owner and CEO (Immense Fortune), but it is my artistic and creative ability that opened that door and my assignment from God to create a platform that enables individuals to find their love and passion for their own endeavors and creative skills. While fashion was my start, music is my LIFE! Music makes me want to be the best me. It moves me in every season and direction. It’s what makes all of what I’ve done and what I’m doing make sense. Like I said in my song “Holy Flow” – “Girls know my name, but I prefer they call me E (713-E). See, most people who call me Eric are family members and friends from grade school. But if you’ve just met me over the last 4-5 years, you know me by 713-E. You know me as the person who decided before he was 21 to bet on himself and double down even when things didn’t seem to be going well. You know as the person to create my own destiny and my own lane. Isn’t that what all of the H-Town legends did?!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Life is all about risks. You don’t know what tomorrow looks like, so everything you do today is a risk. You can clock into your 9-5 today and be sure you’re going to get paid on Friday. Yes, it seems like a guarantee, but it’s still a risk because you really don’t know what the next minute, hour, or day is going to bring. I’m all about taking risks. As I said, I’m gone double down on myself every time! Does fear find a way into this mentality? Hell yeah! But when you know, you know. And even fear can’t stop you from getting to where you’re going. It can and will slow you down, but it won’t stop you.
