Exploring Life & Business with La’Shanda Love of Yard Talk HTX

Today we’d like to introduce you to La’Shanda Love.

Hi La’Shanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my yard card business when I was looking for an avenue to still celebrate my children’s birthdays during the COVID-19 pandemic. So I got on Google and began looking for cost effective but fun experience I can provide. That’s when I discovered yard cards.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road because Houston is very competitive so you have to work hard set your brand apart. I had to spend more money on the right products to ensure the quality of my work had a unique appearance that was different from my competitors. Also every day you are fighting against the weather. Many days it’s either too rainy or too hot to get the setups done properly. If it rains the yard cards will sometimes fall down. If it’s too hot the ground will be hard as a brick. Throughout the learning process I discovered new ways to deliver the same quality such as the use of stands or tape. Overall it is a fairly easy business to manage once you understand the basics. I am in a lot of yard card groups on Facebook and many of the yardettes are very supportive. Black Girls Yard Card group is my absolute favorite.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a yard card celebration rental business. We specialize in providing a custom yard greeting to make any event special. Our yard cards have quality products that we tailor to the client’s specific party theme. I am most proud of that brand wise because many of my competitors do generic setups that often start to look the same. I have also been able to create signs that are between six to eight feet tall. I would like my readers to know that my brand will provide quality experience at an affordable price. I have four options to fit the client’s budget.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I’ve learned that COVID-19 has taught me that it’s okay to get out of my comfort zone and try new things.
