Exploring Life & Business with Alexis Shoope of PIONE3R Physical Therapy & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Shoope

Hi Alexis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been a physical therapist for six years now. I have owned PIONE3R Physical Therapy & Wellness for almost four years, but it all started back in 2020. Every year, I pray over a word for the year. In 2020, I felt like I heard the word “dream”. Little did I know that in a few short months, COVID would affect the world and I would be given more time than I usually had. As I reflected on that word and continued to pray into it over that year, things started to change. During that time, I started to really identify what my dream job would look like. I wanted to be able to work for myself, work with people one on one without the barriers of insurance, and have a way to work with people remotely as well.

Fast forward to February 2022, I left my corporate job and began to fully pursue my dream of working with people from all over through the virtual side of my business, to working one on one in a small private gym space with people here in Houston! My first year was completely on my own. In May 2023, I hired my first additional PT to come work with me. Fast forward to September 2024, I have two PTs and one admin working for me. I also just had my first baby and my business continues to run while I am at home on maternity leave typing this!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In all honestly, it has been more smooth than I would have expected. I really believe a big reason for that is because of my faith and my relationship with Jesus. I have prayed so much over this business and continue to do so. I have had to do things differently than expected at times, but I trust and have faith that this is where God wants me right now.

Some of the struggles have been making sure my employees have enough clients to see, staying connected with local gym partners or physicians to help with referral sources, and running all of this while making sure I prioritize my marriage, friends and now my son! Running a business can often mean some late nights, early mornings, and that your brain doesn’t always turn off when you leave work. Regardless of all of that, I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
PIONE3R Physical Therapy & Wellness is a physical therapy clinic focused on active adults who are looking for a place to bridge the gap between rehab and fitness. We see many people who felt their previous experience in PT was lacking. That may have been because they were tossed around between a physical therapist and a physical therapist assistant or a tech. That also may have been because the therapist never gave them anything high enough level for their goals like running and weight lifting. We are here to be your physical therapist for life that you can reach out to so that nothing becomes chronic and your performance is as high level as you want it to be!

All of our therapists at this time are residency trained. We also all focus on the strength training side of things. We also love treating the pelvic floor population. That may be pregnant and postpartum women or even men after a prostatectomy. Both of these are often missing strengthening in their programming and we are here to help guide you through that during this change in your life.

For me specifically, I am a board certified orthopedic physical therapist as well as a certified strength and conditioning specialist. I also just gave birth to my son through an unmedicated birth and I am here to empower others to do the same!

I believe what sets us apart is that you will always be seen one on one with us and we also have a strength training option and a membership model that allows you to continue to work with us for the long run! We want to be a part of your long term team!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I did not go into PT school thinking I would own my own business. I never thought I would be doing what I am doing now! Even when I opened PIONE3R, I didn’t think I would grow past myself. As the business grew and I continued to pray into it, it became clear the Lord wanted to grow me into leading a team. It has been such a blessing!
