Exploring Life & Business with Alyssa Phillips of Three Pillars Property Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Phillips.

Hi Alyssa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a teenage mother (had two children by the time I was 19), I wanted to provide my children with generational wealth. I saved money up and purchased a home for very cheap. It needed renovation and I’d work on it after work. Rented it out and realized that my income was near my salary. I then decided to buy several more property…. and scaling to multi-family properties– the average of 20 units per building. This then grew into buying additional properties for flipping. I purchased several throughout the Houston area. Would flip around 8-10 luxury homes. Renovations scaling from $100,000-$200,000. Homes selling for $600,000+. This naturally grew into new construction. We have new constructions that will begin in the Heights in early 2023. I wanted to give back to my community and have started an all-girls group home in Richmond, TX. The home focuses on life skills and empowerment. We will teach entrepreneurial skills. In addition to real estate, I own a brokerage in Maryland. And a security company in the midwest- where we employ over 50 skilled physical and cyber security professionals. I believe in giving back and holding free or very inexpensive trainings throughout the year on how to get into real estate or entrepreneurship. My current project is to create the Nation’s first Black ENRICHED resort here in Houston. We will begin fundraising for this endeavor. We believe in providing a great financial return to the community. This opportunity has one of the highest financial returns that I’ve ever seen offered… and we believe in the mission of this project and it wouldn’t make sense NOT to enrich the community that supports this historical development. We have our entry point for investment down to $500. Our returns are projected at nearly 70% annually. We encourage everyone to invest as much as they can, as the returns will create a generational wealth situation. Imagine investing $10,000 and annually receiving $7,000 of income. This is unbeatable. Of course, we provide detailed explanations on this, and we encourage anyone interested to email us at info@oasisnoir.com. This resort is not just beneficial for investors but the mission behind the resort is historical and momentous for the Black community and those that support the Black community. In 2020, I was able to stop working at my 9-5 and work fully in my own endeavors. Prior to this, I worked a 9-5 for the Federal government- National Security Agency as a supervisor and technical lead for Cybersecurity of our country’s most classified information. Very fun job but also very demanding. I decided to quit and work for myself. The best thing I did- when I began placing more time in my own endeavors, I flourished very, very quickly.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Somewhat smooth because I stayed hyper-focused. As a downfall, I haven’t networked well- I stay with my head down and focus on the task at hand. I have an excellent team and friend group who surround me with assistance when needed or simply to cheer me on. I’ve been BLESSED to have such a supportive circle of people… and I think that is most important. Additionally, I keep God at the center of whatever I do. I don’t allow myself to get greedy. I always give back and teach. As much as I climb up, I’m always pulling others up. I think that’s a reason why this road has been mostly smooth.

As you know, we’re big fans of Three Pillars Property Management. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My businesses are structured in various smaller sets. However, Three Pillars conducts a lot of the management of our assets. I started real estate investing in 2010 when I was 19. I learned a lot from people that both looked like me and didn’t look like me. I believe in the diversification of your network. I would not be where I was had I not diversified my network.

I like to think what sets me apart from others is I always give back… not just financially but with my time. I will not do anything unless I can incorporate giving back. With flipping houses, I’ve created a non-profit that helps those who are recently released from prison with the opportunity to get training on flipping houses.

For the properties that we hold as rentals- we specialize in offering LUXURY homes without the luxury price tag because we believe in the broken window theory. Meaning, if your home looks beautiful, then your mental health is improved. We don’t want our tenants living in depressing or dated homes. We want them to love where they live, improve their mental state because they will be more productive and successful.

I am always appreciative and thankful for the opportunity to share my experience, and knowledge with the community. I see so many investors that charge for knowledge and I believe knowledge should be free. I’ve sat in on several of these panels and discussions- and it turns into a “bragging” discussion. I never approach. I provide all the information and resource that I have because I believe there is enough of wealth to go around!

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
No need to be “humble”- you don’t need to dim your light to make others comfortable but I believe in remaining grateful and Godly throughout success. I believe all endeavors should benefit not only one’s self, but also benefit the community. I’ve learned that not everyone will feel this way but stay true to what you believe in and you’ll be happy and rewarded in return.
