Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Burk
Hi Amanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in animal shelters as a volunteer, helping dogs get adopted. During this time, I realized I had a natural talent for working with dogs, which inspired me to pursue it further. I found a mentor, started working professionally, and eventually launched Raise the Woof. Now, I’ve just finished my third year in business and my 8th year of training.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has been a learning experience. I’ve learned the best lessons when things have gone wrong. Now I can appreciate the struggles I had to go through. Starting a business in the middle of a pandemic was daunting, especially after losing my job, which is what initially pushed me to pursue dog training full-time. There were financial uncertainties, long hours, and the pressure of building a client base from scratch. Blood, sweat, and tears! Balancing the emotional demands of the job with the business side was another hurdle. But, I have built something that I am truly proud of.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I founded Raise The Woof in 2021. We specialize in teaching humans how to communicate effectively with their dogs, focusing on a fear-free approach to training. Basically, we teach you how to “speak dog”. We’re known for our expertise in reactivity reduction and recovery, and we’re here to help those (dogs) that are often left behind.
What sets us apart is our dedication to empowering dog owners with the tools and knowledge to create lasting change. Our support doesn’t stop at our last session. When you work with us, you become part of The Woof Pack and have lifetime support. Our services include private sessions, group classes, and virtual training, all tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. And we’re excited to announce something new we’re cooking up to offer even more value for our Woof Pack Fam. (winky face)
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the compassionate, supportive community we’ve built for both our clients and their dogs. Seeing the transformations in dogs who were once fearful or reactive is what drives us every day.
If there’s one thing I’d like readers to know, it’s that we are here to help all dogs thrive. ALL of them! Even if you’ve been told they’re hopeless, we will do everything in our power to bring you some hope.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible support of so many people. My mentor played a huge role early on, teaching me the skills and techniques that became the foundation of my career. My family and friends have been my biggest cheerleaders, offering encouragement and advice when things got tough.
My coworkers, Lena Macke and Jessica Allbright, are invaluable. Lena brings her expertise as a certified professional dog trainer, and Jessica keeps everything running smoothly as our operations manager. Their dedication, talent, and teamwork have been key to the growth of Raise The Woof.
Finally, our clients deserve so much credit. They trust us with their dogs and allow us to be part of their journeys. Their commitment and feedback have pushed me to continuously grow and improve. It truly takes a village, and I’m grateful for every person who’s contributed to the success of this business.
