Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Baez
Hi Amy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m an interior designer with over a decade of experience specializing in high-end luxury homes. My journey began in Austin, TX, where I started my own design business in 2009, after being laid off from my corporate job. Initially, I found success, but the rapid economic growth led to an overwhelming workload, and I realized the importance of sustainable business practices. In 2018, my husband’s job brought us to Houston, allowing me to take a step back, rebrand, and create new systems that would allow for more balance and focus. I’m now based in Bay Area Houston and have been able to focus on specific clients and projects that truly align with my vision.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was early in my business when I took on too many projects too quickly due to Austin’s rapid economic growth. I was overworked and without systems to maintain a sustainable workflow, which quickly led to burnout. However, when we relocated to Houston, I used the opportunity to completely restructure my business. I developed systems to ensure smoother operations, allowing me to take on projects that truly aligned with my goals. This restructuring taught me the importance of balance and having a solid business foundation, which I lacked in the beginning.
We’ve been impressed with Amy Baez Interiors, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a boutique interior design studio specializing in high-end residential projects, with a strong focus on sustainability and personalized service. My business is rooted in the belief that great design is a balance of beauty, functionality, and longevity. I strive to create spaces that not only look stunning but are also meaningful and practical for my clients’ everyday lives. By working with a select number of clients at a time, I’m able to offer a highly personalized experience, ensuring that each project reflects the unique style, personality, and needs of the people I work with.
What truly sets my business apart is my commitment to sustainability. I follow a “buy once, buy well” philosophy, encouraging clients to invest in quality pieces that will last, rather than opting for disposable furnishings. This reduces waste and supports the creation of timeless, lasting designs. I’m particularly passionate about sourcing vintage and antique furnishings, blending them with new, high-quality items to create spaces that are rich in character and environmentally responsible.
My studio is known for creating elegant, sophisticated designs that blend modern aesthetics with timeless elements. Whether it’s a waterfront home or a cozy family residence, I ensure that every detail is thoughtfully considered, from the materials used to the custom touches that make the space feel truly unique.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the relationships I build with my clients. Designing someone’s home is a deeply personal experience, and I make it a priority to connect with my clients on a personal level so I can fully understand their vision. This collaborative approach is what drives the success of my projects and leads to spaces that feel authentic to the people who live in them.
For anyone considering working with my studio, I want them to know that they’ll receive an experience that’s completely tailored to them. My services go beyond just choosing colors and furniture—I’m here to guide clients through the entire process, from concept to completion, ensuring that their home reflects their personality, values, and lifestyle in a beautiful and functional way.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is the ability to work from home, which allows me to maintain a healthy work-life balance and spend quality time with my husband Eddie, and our Cockapoo, Sunny. Being able to create a flexible schedule gives me the freedom to enjoy the little moments, whether it’s taking breaks for a walk with Sunny or sharing meals as a family. That balance between my personal life and a career I love is incredibly fulfilling.
