Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Glaze.
Hi Ariel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I always like to say that my purpose found me. I started by volunteering at a crisis call center in undergrad as a broadcast journalism major, and it completely changed my outlook on life. I changed my major junior year, graduated, and went on to grad school for counseling. Since then, I’ve worked in several different fields as a counselor before settling in private practice. It’s been quite a journey over the past 12 years, and I wouldn’t change a thing!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would definitely say there were struggles along the way. Changing my major junior year in undergrad was truly the biggest leap for me, but through hard work I graduated on time to get into my master’s program. I moved to Houston from New Orleans the year after I graduated, which was also another big leap to be away from my family and friends while pursuing what I knew in my heart to be for me. It’s challenging when you have a vision that no one can see but you and God, it can feel isolating, but I never gave up.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Affirmations Therapeutic Services, PLLC?
My private practice specializes in telehealth mental health care for adults age 18+ in Texas. I specialize in CPT for PTSD, anxiety, depression, women’s issues, life transitions. I also created an affirmations journal and a money planner with money affirmations at the beginning of this year that are now on sale on Amazon. What sets me apart from others is my ability to help clients see their full potential by realizing they do not have to live in their trauma and they can give themselves permission to be exactly who they want to be. I have a person-centered approach while tailoring each therapeutic encounter to each client, as therapy to me is not one size fits all, which I think is a unique trait.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I’ve learned that self-care is so important. Sometimes, we just say it is but do not practice what we preach, and I’m guilty of this one. As mental health became more important with the pandemic, I had to remind myself I’m human too, and we are all experiencing the same thing together. I cannot take care of others if I do not care for myself. Give yourself grace, space, time, and self-care always.
