Today we’d like to introduce you to Attorney Kim Bruno
Hi Attorney Kim , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a born and raised Houstonian. I come from a hardworking modest family. My mother worked as a paralegal in the profession even before I was born. Growing up we really never had means for childcare and therefore I would spend most of my summers in luxury conference rooms reading books or roaming through the city of downtown Houston getting lost in the tunnels. As I got older I would spend my summers as a receptionist for firms in the Lyric Center where my mother worked. I often wondered what life would be like as an attorney. I would watch young and seasoned attorneys prepare for trial, run through demonstrative evidence and of course my mother prepare trial notebooks spending countless hours for their one and only shot at justice where everything had to be perfect! These were empowering moments in my life. The confidence in the attorneys was something I knew I wanted one day.
Today, I am a proud first generation Latina lawyer. The only attorney in my family. When I passed the Texas state bar, my mother told me that I was opening up my very own practice and that she was going to work for me. I couldn’t believe what she was telling me but I took a leap of faith and started my very own practice. I now run a successful personal injury and immigration law firm. I have a passion to serve and I spend the majority of my time in my office serving or in the community on my days off serving the people.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have hit many obstacles along the way. Some obstacles more significant than others. Some obstacles that have made me doubt my abilities. Other obstacles where I had nearly given up and thrown in the towel. Law school basically taught me how to think like a lawyer. I didn’t learn to actually practice law in school. I was never taught by another attorney on how to work cases up or the ins and outs of the courts. I truly was faced with learning it on my own.
Running my own practice was another grave challenge. I was never taught how to manage people, open accounts or fire people. Letting people go has probably always been the most difficult because I have a heart to help everyone but building a strong team has always been priority. Although we have gone through many, we have also maintained a solid foundation to operate like a well oiled machine. Without my team, there is no me and I can appreciate this obstacle as one of my greatest struggles.
We’ve been impressed with Abogada Numero Uno, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a personal injury and immigration attorney. I handle wrongful death, catastrophic injury, car accident, 18-wheeler accident, and immigration law cases.
Growing up, immigration attorneys always had a bad reputation. I would hear the most heart wrenching stories of people in the Hispanic communities not receiving adequate representation after paying out thousands of dollars. This was something I knew I was going to have to change and the only way to do so was by stopping at no end to get my clients results. I made it my mission to set myself apart from every other law firm in Houston and become Abogada Numero Uno Kim Bruno.
Every individual who walks into my office gets a free consultation with over 50 years of experience in both immigration and personal injury law. I don’t charge for consults because I believe that people’s rights are free. It is my honor to present the law to those who are unfamiliar with it. I take pride in my work and make it a point to change lives one client at a time.
My satisfaction comes from the voices of those whom I have helped. I promote my business on a public platform where their voices are heard. When my clients gave me the name “Abogada Numero Uno” I took it and ran with it. I knew I had accomplished exactly what I had set out to do and that was to become an attorney people could trust and rely on.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite book is the bible. I heavily rely on it. Philippians 4: 13.
