Exploring Life & Business with Austin Glass of Austin Glass Construction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Glass.

Hi Austin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path here wasn’t linear, and that’s a big part of why I do things the way I do today.

I made a significant life decision years ago to move my family halfway across the country to build a life that aligned with the values we wanted. That move forced me to bet on myself even more than I did before the move. I didn’t have a built-in network or a safety net here, so I had to learn quickly, work hard, and figure things out as I went. I owned a Real Estate brokerage before this and sold my portion of that business when I moved my family. That left me in a position to spend time with my family for a while without working to get to know my children after years of long hours building that company. I decided to go all in flipping houses for a couple of years and had plenty of experiences with the typical contractors we all know the stories of.

I’ve always been hands on and drawn to building, whether that meant working on homes, learning construction for my Realtor clients, or understanding how properties actually function beyond what you see on the surface. Over time, that experience blended with my background in real estate and investing, and I kept seeing the same problems come up. Homeowners felt overwhelmed, misinformed, or burned by projects that didn’t go as planned.

I wanted to build something that allowed me to provide for my family while also doing work I could stand behind without compromise.

Austin Glass Construction grew out of that season of life. It wasn’t about chasing growth. It was about creating a business that reflected how I wanted to live and work, with honest communication, clear expectations, and accountability for the outcome. Everything I’d learned along the way, including mistakes, risk, and starting over, shaped how I approach my work and relationships today.

Looking back, the common thread through all of it has been ownership. Taking responsibility for decisions, outcomes, and the people who trust me with their homes is what ultimately brought me to where I am now.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. It’s been anything but smooth.

Most of the early struggles came from wearing too many hats at once. I was running jobs, managing people, handling estimates, dealing with clients, and trying to build systems at the same time. When you’re growing without a big team behind you, there’s a lot of pressure to get everything right while still keeping projects moving. That leads to long days, mistakes you learn from the hard way, and moments where you realize something has to change.

Another challenge was learning where to draw boundaries. Early on, I said yes to too much and trusted people too quickly, whether that was clients, subcontractors, or partners. A few tough situations around quality control, missed expectations, and delayed payments forced me to tighten my processes and be clearer about how I operate. Those lessons weren’t fun, but they were necessary.

There were also seasons where growth itself was the struggle. More work doesn’t automatically mean less stress. It usually means more complexity. I had to learn how to slow things down enough to build systems, standardize decisions, and protect my time so the business didn’t run me instead of the other way around.

Looking back, the road was bumpy, but each challenge clarified how I wanted to operate. The struggles shaped the discipline, structure, and transparency that define how I work today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Austin Glass Construction is a residential construction and renovation company built around project management, not just labor. We focus on renovations, repairs, and custom improvements where homeowners want clarity, structure, and accountability instead of chaos. That includes everything from targeted repairs and finish work to larger renovation projects where coordination and quality control matter just as much as the final result.

What sets us apart is how we run projects. We operate as a project management–driven firm, working with a vetted network of skilled subcontractors while handling planning, scheduling, communication, budgeting, and on site oversight. Clients aren’t left guessing what’s happening, who’s responsible, or why something changed. We put a heavy emphasis on clear scopes of work, realistic timelines, and upfront expectations so there are fewer surprises along the way.

Because I also come from a real estate and investment background, we approach projects with a long-term lens. We think about durability, resale value, and how a decision today affects the home years down the road, not just how it looks at completion. That perspective resonates with homeowners who want to make smart, lasting improvements rather than quick fixes.

Brand wise, what I’m most proud of is trust. The business has grown largely through referrals and repeat clients, which tells me people feel taken care of and confident recommending us to others. I’m intentional about keeping the brand grounded in honesty, responsibility, and follow through, even when that means having tough conversations or slowing growth to protect quality.

What I want readers to know is that Austin Glass Construction is built for homeowners who value transparency and professionalism. We’re not the cheapest option, and we’re not trying to be. We’re focused on doing things the right way, standing behind our work, and making the construction process feel manageable instead of overwhelming.

What does success mean to you?
I define success by the time I get to spend doing the things I love, the smiles and appreciation from customers, and the ability to put food on the table for the families of the men and women we work with. Just as important to me is never becoming stagnant. I want to keep learning, improving, and pushing myself forward rather than getting comfortable or complacent.
