Exploring Life & Business with Avesta Talatum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avesta Talatum.

Hi Avesta, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always wanted to be a makeup artist. I remember as a child when I used to steal my mom’s makeup or sometimes my dad’s water paint to do my sister’s makeup and I’ve always gotten in trouble because of that, but nothing stopped me to achieve my goal.

When I came to the United State in 2001, I went to cosmetology school after I finished my ESL classes and started working with two different beauty salons and finally I started working with Aisha’s beauty salon in 2004, I worked there till 2011.

After my first child was born in November 2011, I started working from home and she was followed by two sisters in October 2013 and January 2017.

In August 2019 two of my kids were going to school, so I had a little bit more time for myself and one of Houston’s great photographers MJ’s Photography contacted me and asked me if I can do her clients makeup and I was more than happy to start working with her and that’s where my businesses started picking up. I am grateful to all my friends and clients who believe in me and have chosen my beauty services.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road, It took me long time and I had to put lots of effort to built my clientele.

I was trying to keep a balance between my work and my personal life and it was very difficult, because I had 3 small kids, so I was working besides being a full-time mom also.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in doing makeup, hairstyle and other beauty salon related services. I listen to my clients carefully and try to understand their desired makeup or hairstyle look.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People might think that I am just doing this for living but actually it’s my passion and I do it by paying attention to every detail.
