Exploring Life & Business with Brian Jones of Girls Are Drugs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Jones.

Hi Brian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Well, let me see… I transitioned into fashion from the music industry and I have been designing in Houston since 2012. So I kind of knew how to get the attention of the audience. I was put in a position where I had to turn my hobby into a business and let’s just say, from there God propelled this company to where it is today. Girls Are Drugs® was created in 2021 so we are still babies in the game.

The backbone of this company is my customers who are like family. Their love for this brand is so genuine & organic. 90% of them don’t know what I look like or have never met me in person so it’s not a situation where they are wearing the brand because they know me. They genuinely love the brand.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
HELL NO!!!!! Hahahahahaha!!! I’ve had an individual try to steal my brand. I’ve had individuals selling fake merchandise. I’ve had individuals selling water-downed versions of my brand. All of these situations have caused some type of confusion among my consumers.

It would literally put me in a state of depression because on one end I want to fight “street style” and on the other end, I had to remind myself that this brand is bigger than me personally. This is a business and things have to be handled accordingly. I had to sit down for a year and a half and build this brand in the shadows. It was so HARD, but it was a must.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
GIRLS ARE DRUGS® is a fashion/apparel company. It is a lifestyle for a lot of individuals and not just a brand. Like the brands that inspire me (Bape, Supreme, ASSC) I plan on being around for the next 40-50 years. Consistency sets this brand apart from others. I’m always posting new drops and content on our Instagram account (@kreamcreme). I’m always giving the customers the spotlight by posting them in my stories and highlighting them on my page via #KreamMondays.

You never see big brands doing that. People want to feel as though they are a part of something special and that is what I try to give them. Everything is organic. I might take ideas from other brands but it all ties back into GIRLS ARE DRUGS®. Being innovative, keeping up with changes and all the new trends — all while being US. This company will be BIGGER than just fashion and merchandise because the playing field is endless. We can go in any direction we want to.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The crazy thing is… the HARDSHIPS that I encountered played the biggest role in my success.

I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. GOD planned this journey for me so I accepted my path and embraced it. The CUSTOMERS!!!! They are everything to me. They wear this brand like it’s a badge of honor and I love that. It keeps me motivated — it keeps me sane — it keeps my creativity flowing. I love y’all.
