Exploring Life & Business with Brian Ryu of Orange Tree Oral Surgery & Implant Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Ryu.

Hi Brian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After completing my oral surgery training, I moved to Houston due to my wife’s work and spent several years practicing as an associate in a private practice. Through that experience, I learned both what worked well and what could be done better for my patients and referring doctors.

Eventually, I decided to build my own practice to realize a patient-care philosophy: conservative, patient-focused care with clear communication. Opening my own office allowed me to align my clinical standards, patient experience, and community involvement with my values. As a new practice owner, I’m focused on building long-term trust with both patients and referring providers.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting a practice comes with much uncertainty—everything from construction delays and operational challenges to earning trust in a community where you’re new.

One of the continued challenges is being patient. I am trying to be committed to long-term values while growth is taking time. But these struggles have also been valuable part of the process, forcing me to be intentional, resilient, and focused on doing things the right way rather than the fast way.

We’ve been impressed with Orange Tree Oral Surgery & Implant Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My practice is a community-based oral surgery office focused on delivering high-quality surgical care with a conservative, patient-first approach. We provide a broad scope of oral surgery services, including extractions, wisdom teeth removal, implants, bone grafting, biopsies and emergency care. but what we’re most known for is how we deliver these care.

What sets us apart is communication—taking the time to explain options, recommending only what’s truly necessary, and maintaining clear, same-day communication with referring doctors. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’re building. We’re focused on accessibility, thoughtful care, and long-term relationships, and I want readers to know that our practice is built around doing right by patients and the community, not volume or shortcuts.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Take time to build the right team. When you have the right people around you, they can cover your shortcomings and you will be able to go further together than alone.
