Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Kay.
Hi Brittany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I wanted to consign my Class A Motorhome “Stevie” with a local competitor; however, they wanted to come look at the motorhome to see if it was good enough for their operation. After the fourth no-show on their part, I decided to rent it out myself.
I started renting the RV out from the storage facility I used to store it at. Quickly the RV became very popular and profitable. So much so that I went and purchased several more RVs!
Once I hit 6 RVs at the storage unit, I started looking for my own lot. I had found 3/4 of an acre not far from the storage location and moved the small fleet there. I stayed there for two years, reaching 26 units and maxing out the space. I then found our current location, 4 acres in Spring, where we now have approximately 45 vacation rental units and another hundred or so long-term housing units. I currently have 18 employees, a full-time repair shop, vacation rental operation, and a long-term RV rental division.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Financing RVs for commercial use was a challenge. The big-name banks didn’t have any precedence for this type of loan so I was forced to leverage personal credit to help build the fleet until I had enough history to get a bank to back me.
