Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Gatson.
Hi Bruce, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a native Houstonian and graduate of the University of Houston. After years of working in Corporate America, I decided to apply my gift of numbers and pursue my own accounting business. I was driven by the desire to educate people on money management and taxes. At the time of this interview, we’re going into our 18th year and could not be more grateful for the success and impact we’ve had thus far. We’re thankful for the opportunity to be interviewed by Voyage and share our story.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As I look back, every obstacle was an opportunity. The main challenge was finding a way to stand out in a highly competitive environment.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our business is family owned and operated. This year we were blessed to celebrate our 17th year of offering exemplary service to our customers. We’ve curated a loyal customer base by servicing our community, and have since expanded to serve clients across the country. Our tax professionals specialize in personal, small business, and partnership income tax preparation. We also offer professional LLC formation services and tax strategy. Our business is made up of my sons Darius and Dre Gatson and my brother Andre Gatson. We’re proud to be black-owned, and our longevity is a direct result of our customer service. What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There were many lessons learned along this journey, but two stand out more than the rest.
1) Don’t believe everything that you hear.
2) Always keep the faith and believe in yourself.
There will be things that you hear that will try to discourage you on your journey. The more successful that you become, the louder these voices become. It’s important to stay focused, believe, and remember why you started. There’s nothing that you can’t accomplish if you have faith in yourself, your work ethic, and your dreams.
