Today we’d like to introduce you to Caycy Cotto.
Hi caycy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love for plants and flowers really started with my parents’ plant nursery. I grew up surrounded by them, and it became something that’s just part of me. After COVID, we had to close down and move from Houston to the DMV. In 2023, I came back to Houston, and one of the first things on my heart was getting back into flowers. I started small, just selling little plants, and then in October I tried my first “spooky”-themed bouquet. By Valentine’s Day 2024, things really picked up. I had pre-orders and, of course, the last-minute rush orders too. It was a lot of pressure, but I actually loved it—and the bouquets turned out so beautiful. To this day, I still get those last-minute holiday orders, and I can honestly say I enjoy the challenge. This year I stepped out even more and started going to markets and pop-ups with my floral business. I usually take premade bouquets and also set up a “build your own bouquet” bar, where people get to choose the flowers they love and put something together themselves. It’s so much fun to see people’s faces light up. Because I’m faith-based, I also like to add a verse or a positive message with every arrangement or bag. It’s something I’ve prayed for, and it means a lot to me to share a little hope and love through flowers. For me, they’re not just flowers—they’re a gift from the heart, made with intention and care. Seeing people smile when they receive them reminds me why I started. This is only my second year, but I’m really excited for what’s ahead. I’m putting myself out there at more events and markets, and just trusting the process as my business grows.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There are months when I only get one or two orders—or sometimes none at all. When I started doing markets, I had to make a big investment, and there are days where I’ll sell 12 bouquets, and other days where I don’t sell a single one. It can be tough, especially when I go home with buckets of flowers or when sales don’t even cover the costs.
What has kept me going is the support system I have around me. I’m grateful for the people who encourage me, lend a hand, and remind me why I started in the first place.
We’ve been impressed with The Green Palettee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I make floral bouquets for holidays, special occasions, or simply just because. Along with custom orders, I’ve started going to markets and events, where I bring premade bouquets and also set up my Bloom Bar. The Bloom Bar is something I really love—it lets people pick out their favorite flowers (fresh or crochet) and create their own bouquet. I bring all the wrapping paper and bags, so I can help them create.
What I’m most proud of is that I haven’t given up, even when things get hard. This business is something I believe God placed in my hands, and I don’t take that lightly. For me, flowers aren’t just flowers—they’re a way to spread love, joy, and encouragement. My hope is that every person who receives one of my bouquets feels special, cared for, and maybe even a little closer to God’s love.
What makes me different is the intention behind each arrangement. Whether it’s a simple bouquet, the Bloom Bar, or setting up backdrops for an event, I put my heart into every detail. I want people to know that when they order from me, they’re not just getting flowers—they’re getting something made with prayer, love, and purpose.
Looking ahead, I’m also excited to branch out into wooden art and custom tables. It’s another way for me to create and share something meaningful with others.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I never really had a mentor—it’s honestly just been God guiding me and opening the right doors. That’s how I found my way into markets and events. At my very first market, I met such an amazing vendor, and we ended up collaborating and even doing giveaways together. My first event was a Christian Y2K party, and that’s where I really pushed myself to step out of my shell. I talked to people, made new connections, met more vendors, and got so much good advice just by being open.
If I could share any advice, it would be this: don’t be afraid to step out, even if it feels scary at first. Talk to people, reach out, ask questions, learn from videos, and let the experiences guide you. The more you show up, the more you’ll find your passion and your people. Just take that leap—you never know what doors will open.
