Exploring Life & Business with Chigozirim Wellington of Chibee Luxury Hair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chigozirim Wellington.

Hi Chigozirim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Wig-making for me started as a hobby, and when I moved to the United States for my master’s degree Program, I realized it was an avocation I could take up in my spare time. I started off making wigs for my friends, and they became a muse for my new craft. My interest in wig-making grew, and in 2017 I decided to take a wig-making certification with The Hair Diagram and several other classes. Getting a certification helped boost my confidence in the craft, and I started making wigs for clients and consequently building my clientele base. As the covid pandemic persisted, I began to get an influx of clients with women transitioning to wigs due to the lockdown. I have subsequently experienced tremendous growth in sales, and this has led me to register my business here in Texas. I still get very anxious as a new business owner, but the reception and support over the past few years have been incredible.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The business has witnessed its fair share of challenges, as is consistent with every burgeoning venture. From sourcing of products to inventory management to delivery and just having to deal with clients generally – I have had to learn on the go, and in this industry in other to stay relevant, it is imperative that you keep improving yourself and find ways to make your work stand out. It is one thing to make gorgeous wigs and another to have a model that turns the business into a success. At the beginning, I struggled with getting the right product vendors (and I still encounter the occasional problems with shipping companies, especially during the holidays), coupled with clients trying to haggle prices or get free services. At the end of it all, the pros outweigh the cons, and knowing my clients love their wigs gives me the ultimate satisfaction.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Chibee Luxury Hair?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Always find people with a success story in your field and ensure to be friends with them. Don’t be scared to ask questions and always be receptive when given feedback. You would make so many errors, granted, but you must keep pushing. Don’t be scared to try out new things that would elevate your brand. For me personally, I see my clients as the most important factor when it comes to getting my brand out there.

After all, a satisfied customer is the best business strategy there is.
