Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle McMullan.
Hi Danielle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Biophilia is a theory that states “We as humans, have an innate need to connect with nature and others”. My name is Danielle, and I am the owner and creator of Biophilia products. I started creating and using homemade natural products in 2016 in my own kitchen on myself. I was tired of spending too much money on expensive, chemical filled products that just did not work! When I realized how much I loved these products, I just had to share with my friends and family. Guess what? Everyone wanted more! That’s when I knew it wasn’t just me who wanted naturally gentle, affordable, feel-good face and body care. We need it, we want it, and that’s where my passion comes from. I hope to one day build a store front, but much more than a retail store. I’d like to build a place for us to connect over nature and with each other. I invite you to join me, in this journey, and with our products!!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a small business owner is one of the hardest jobs I’ve ever worked. Currently, I am a one woman show meaning that I am in charge of every aspect of my business. From creating, marketing, shipping and labeling, restocking and supplies, the list of things to do can sometimes feel endless. In addition to my business I work part time at a Veterinary office, and I am also a mother and stepmother to four wonderful children.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about BIOPHILIA?
Biophilia was a passion that I stumbled upon. I’ve always been interested in natural skincare but never thought I would make a business out of it. It wasn’t until I researched cold process soap making that I fell in love with the creativity it allows. Soap-making also came with a huge supportive tik tok community. With alot of research and encouragement I taught myself how to make amazing, naturally gentle soap.
Our consistent best selling product is the Aloe Beautiful which is a face serum like no other. It has all the benefits of a moisturizing oil serum without the greasy feel.
A newer favorite among our customers is a soap bar called Silk Stockings. With real Silk blended into the bar, and a fragrance called Persephone’s Kiss it is soap qualified for a goddess.
Biophilia is known for making naturally gentle skincare that works like the expensive brands but is affordable.
We also love a cottage core type feel so at two out of three locations where we sell our products we also sell vintage items that speak to our aesthetic. You’ll find majestic floral pictures, animal figurines, vintage framed art, and timeless trinkets.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My biggest inspiration comes from other women who are also business owners. There is a group of women entrepreneurs that I’m a part of that have been there since the beginning. I look to them for advice, encouragement, and support.
I am inspired by the women who have come before me, juggling numerous hats and responsibilities, fighting for the ability to support their families emotionally and financially.
