Exploring Life & Business with David Flores of David Flores Law Firm, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Flores.

Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in the Houston area. I attended public schools in the Pasadena Independent School District, then I attended the University of Houston and South Texas College of Law. I was licensed as a Texas attorney in 2002 and began my career at a law firm here in Houston. Over the past twenty-three years I have worked in different law firms and corporations. In 2023 I decided to start my own firm and devote myself full-time to private practice in estate planning, probate, and real estate. I have been building my law practice over the course of the last three years and remain a solo attorney.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ha! No. The road has been one with a lot of twists and turns. I never had the desire to go the traditional route of joining a law firm and working my way up the partner track. I always had the entrepreneurial spirit and longed to be out on my own making my own way. But that involved taking risks and I was never quite ready or so I thought. I’ve come to learn that there never is the “perfect” time to start a new venture. I kind of dipped my toe in it in 2005 and again in 2016. But I decided to remain in a secure job with a steady paycheck. The biggest struggle has been overcoming my fear of failure. But I also had the bigger fear of one day regretting never having taken the chance. The business of law has changed a lot over the past twenty years especially with the use of technology. Sometimes it can seem daunting. But I believe that I can overcome this new environment and deliver legal services even better than I could before.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The David Flores Law Firm is a solo practice that specializes in estate planning, probate and real estate. We offer “concierge” style services without the subscription. That means that I like to treat clients like they are getting concierge services. This is a small firm that has embraced technology to outperform larger firms with efficiency, client services, and outcomes. My firm has also embraced the demographic changes that have taken place in our city by reaching out to underserved communities in estate planning like the Hispanic/Latinx community and adults under 50. I am most proud of this undertaking and feel that I can help a lot of people.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk-Taking always involves a certain amount of fear. The fear of the unknown and the fear of failure. So overcoming this fear is a psychological hurdle. How I have overcome this is that I have chosen to focus on the possibilities and the potential for success. I know that in order to attain a certain level of achievement it always involves taking risks. At every stage of my career I have taken risks and it has always paid off even if I didn’t realize it at the time. I like to read stories about how some of the most successful people failed many times before they achieved success. They never even let failure deter them.
