Today we’d like to introduce you to Dolly Desai.
Hi Dolly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I developed my passion for baking from my mom, who gets joy from cooking for people and seeing their enjoyment from eating her creations. Growing up, and even now, my mom would always challenge herself by thinking of creative desserts and experimenting with how to reinvent classics.
As I get older and find myself resembling her more and more, I realize that I too get joy from watching people enjoy the things that I bake. I started out baking cupcakes, brownies, cookies, whatever I could figure out how to do, and passing them out to my friends for feedback. The more I experimented the more I fell in love with baking.
During the pandemic, I was trying to find a way to connect with my friends since hanging out wasn’t an option. Knowing that one way people connect is through food, I spent two days baking different kinds of cookies and delivering them to the doorsteps of my friends. Through that process, I realized what an impact delivering cookies can make – a smile when it felt like there wasn’t a reason to, an indulgence when people were having to cut back, and a connection with someone who created this item from love for you.
I decided specifically on cookies because, well, who doesn’t love a good cookie? They’re good fresh out of the oven and oftentimes even better the next day!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, I would say it has been a pretty smooth road. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a strong support system and have gotten wonderful feedback about my cookies. I would say the biggest struggles are editing myself and getting the word out about my business. There are so many wonderful bakers in this area and in this space that competing can be overwhelming sometimes.
I also find myself wanting to offer every cookie creation I come up with to the public, which isn’t feasible over time with materials and labor constraints.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dolly’s Delights is a craft cookie delivery service. We specialize in creative cookie flavors and putting a twist on your favorite classic desserts. We offer handheld options for some of your favorite indulgences. I am really proud of the way that we have been able to network on social media and through other avenues to spread the word, and the risks we have taken to offer some of the flavors that we do. These are not options you can find anywhere, and each one is handmade with care. Each cookie dozen is carefully crafted to deliver unmatched quality.
We offer the “Classic Collection” with 5 familiar flavors, and a “Creative Collection” with some out-of-the-box flavors such as Browned Butter Sea Salt Chocolate Chip, Ferrero Rocher, Chai Masala, and Earl Grey Lavender. We also offer assortment boxes if you can’t decide, as well as Indian fusion flavors to represent our heritage.

We also support several organizations and charities with the proceeds that we make. Throughout the year, we like to pick causes that are close to us and to our consumers and contribute to those. To date, we have given back to Kids Meals Houston, Houson Food Bank, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, National Suicide Prevention Hotline, and more to help those less fortunate than us. These past couple of years have been challenging; we have been very fortunate to have come out with little loss but know that others are not in the same position. We will continue to use our platform and our voice to help those that need it.
