Hi Erin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It is an honor to be with you today. Like you said name is Erin Strom and I am the founder of Beloved Tutoring. Beloved Tutoring is a private tutoring company located in the Woodlands/Magnolia area. The story behind Beloved Tutoring really began with my journey through academics. As a child, I struggled to grasp many concepts that came very easily to my peers. It wasn’t until I transitioned from public school and into a Montessori Academy that my self-confidence began to improve. I learned that even though my learning style was different than most, I was still an intelligent child. While there, I learned that kinesthetic and tactile techniques were the best ways for me to learn.
Even though I began to understand myself more, academics was still an uphill battle. I was diagnosed with dyslexia in 8th grade and spent a lot of time receiving extra support from my parents, teachers, and tutors. This filled many of the gaps in my education, which helped propel me forward. I truly would have never made it through school if not for the incredible support of my parents and some remarkable teachers along the way. After finishing high school, I decided to pursue a degree in Christian Education. Once I completed my undergraduate, I continued on to receive a Master in Elementary Education. Those earlier years are often the most formative in a child’s academic journey, and I wanted to be trained to do this well, giving them the best start possible.
During my first few years as an educator, I taught in public, private, and charter schools at several locations around the United States, where I taught every grade level from PreK to 5th grade. This wide array of experiences exposed me to many challenges both in and out of the classroom. This helped prepare me for the many obstacles that arise when educating children and gave me many lessons I took with me when creating Beloved Tutoring. Through my experience, I’ve always loved the one-on-one setting since it often lends itself to a relaxed environment where a child’s learning style can be best matched to a teaching style. I’ve also found that a smaller setting is very conducive to developing quality relationships with students, which is foundational to quality learning. We often laugh, love to be silly, and enjoy learning together!
The struggles I experienced as a child gave me a deep understanding of how important it is for a child to embrace who they are, where they are, all as a beloved child of God. Thus, the name Beloved Tutoring perfectly represents my mission and vision, which is to develop the whole child by supporting and challenging them academically, fostering a love of learning, and building their self-confidence.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since the beginning of Beloved Tutoring, I have experienced The Father’s love and care time and time again. He has carried me through many times of doubt and has led me each step of the way. He has provided so many incredible families to work with over the past year. As we continue to grow, I love going back to the beginning when I lit a candle and listened to the song Made for Jesus by John Mark Pantana. It always brings me back to why I started Beloved Tutoring: Deep in the caverns of Your heart. Stood Your beloved, Your daystar. The fairest among ten thousand wines. You formed the seasons and fixed the time. You gave me smiles in the morning light. Creation flowed from pure love. You were crafting I was breathing. You were laughing I was reaching out for You. I was made for heaven. I was made for Jesus. I was made to walk in the cool of the day with You.
Beloved Tutoring is unique because most of the struggles we have faced came prior to the creation of our company. Like any growing business, Beloved Tutoring has faced many forks in the road. The biggest lesson we have learned is that making mistakes is okay. We can learn from them and move forward with wisdom.
As you know, we’re big fans of Beloved Tutoring. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Beloved Tutoring is a business that lives by its slogan: Exceptional Teaching, Extraordinary Students, Celebrating Uniquenesses, Illuminating the Sky. We pour our hearts into teaching children in a way that increases a child’s confidence in themselves, which then builds a love for learning they can carry far beyond their time with Beloved Tutoring. We seek to impact every extraordinary student by using the avenue of academics. We celebrate each of our uniquenesses no matter what they may be. Through the understanding that we are the Father’s Beloved children, we can begin to operate out of wholeness and Illuminate the Sky. We believe that we can be a light in the midst of darkness.
Beloved Tutoring currently offers three different services: the Individualized Learning Plan, Homework Help, and the new Lightning Learning Program. The Individualized Learning Plan is where Beloved Tutoring creates a standalone educational plan catered to each child’s specific needs. We acquire baseline data to identify areas of strength and limitation and use that data to create our curriculum. Beloved Tutoring is known for our interest-based learning style, where we incorporate the child’s interests and hobbies to develop an interactive and engaging learning environment that is unique to each child.
Homework Help is where the child has homework or other material from school or home, and we help them complete and understand the content. This was created so that a child can receive extra support for any subject area needed during the school year. We identify any misconceptions and address the child’s misunderstandings, creating a more complete grasp of the concept. Many parents appreciate this service because it places the responsibility of academic growth onto Beloved Tutoring.
The new Lightning Learning Program is our group tutoring sessions, currently focused on Math and Language Arts & Reading. The family brings the curriculum and Beloved Tutoring teaches from that content. It is designed to fit the needs of many families that may be enrolled in hybrid education or homeschooling while still providing a small group environment. These sessions occur Monday through Thursday, 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM for Math, and 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM for Language Arts & Reading. We accept students from Kindergarten through 8th grade!
We are so proud of the improvement we’ve seen in the self-confidence of so many of our students and their recent academic success. Even more so, seeing the positive impact, this improvement has had both on the child, as well as their family. Beloved Tutoring began just over a year ago, with only a couple of clients. In such a short time, our schedule is filling up, and we are now looking for more tutors that believe in our vision!

Beloved Tutoring is always looking for students who need support beyond the classroom. We seek to both support and challenge our students along their academic journey. We have also been blessed with many wonderful families, and are now looking for tutors with a caring spirit and a joy for education, to join the Beloved Tutoring family!
We are always open to partnering with organizations and local businesses to help provide new experiences for our students.
