Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Ortiz.
Hi Faith, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a little girl, I watched my mother bake everything from Pies to Wedding cakes, you can definitely say that’s who inspired me and that’s when my interest in baking began. I began baking on my own when I was about 16, mainly for my friend’s birthdays throughout high school, with absolutely no intention of making a career out of it…I had plans to attend college to become a Labor & Delivery nurse. Fast forward to 22 where I found myself in college not feeling any type of excitement for my chosen career path. I decided to take a complete turn and go to Culinary School in Austin. I enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu into the Culinary Arts program, where I would study the art of food. There my passion for baking would be sparked again in my only baking class, where we made everything from sorbets to soufflés. Although my degree’s focus was on food not pastry I felt at home in that class but I still didn’t do anything about it, I stuck to my culinary major.
After completing all of my courses for my degree, I went on to intern as a cook at Be Our Guest restaurant at Disney World in Florida. That is where I would decide that my love for cooking food was minuscule in comparison to my passion for desserts. I interned as a cook but always found myself eyeing the pastry department, and was heavily intrigued by everything they were doing. Which solidified my decision to return to my first love of baking after finishing my internship and graduating from Culinary school! After returning to Houston I launched my business slowly and later began working at Yauatcha in the galleria (until they closed their doors in February of 2020) with an amazing pastry team, where I was taught more about creating flavors & the art of precision. Leading me to where I am now, with Faithfully Yours.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, I’ve had many struggles from being indecisive on what I wanted to do with my life when it came to my career, to finally doing it and figuring out how to fund my passion (start up costs of a business can be quite pricey), learning to take critiques and adjust what needs to be adjusted, to learning how to trust myself and believe that sometimes you can find your purpose while fulfilling your passion(s).

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Take the time to focus on developing a really good, no, not good but an AMAZING product! Don’t worry so much about all the fancy stuff in the beginning such as expensive boxes, high-gloss business cards etc., focus on the product you are offering. Make sure your product is something you are proud of, because you can change packaging and get beautiful business cards later but you can’t get customers back easily if you give them a product you aren’t proud of or know wasn’t at its best. Also, I’ve found that no one will believe in you more than you believe in yourself, so dream big and Believe in yourself, and remember Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor is a successful business! Keep Pressing!
