Exploring Life & Business with Fancy Lane of Fancy Lane Weddings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fancy Lane.

Hi Fancy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started planning corporate and small social events in Washington, DC.

My passion for planning weddings began in 2017. I took a position out of my comfort zone as a wedding event manager in Michigan for a popular wedding venue. I absolutely loved it. It wasn’t the parties. It wasn’t the decorative concepts. I fell in love with the couples – connecting with the development of how those two individuals became a “we/they” and are now sitting in front of me.

This is why I decided to create Fancy Lane Weddings. I felt it was my responsibility to maintain the integrity of the minimally or excessively lavish event productions and support their life goals as well. The wedding is a momentous occasion in the timeline, but the marriage is also just as important and infinitely longer.

My first year of weddings was the year of the pandemic – literally, I lead a wedding team in Michigan on March 14th, 2019. Literally (3) days later, the world began to shut down. 2020 is when my world picked back up. I have been putting in the work ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but it hasn’t been bumpy either. I would compare the development of Fancy Lane Weddings to a race with a lot of curves and hills.

1. Overcoming the Pandemic would have to be my top obstacle.

2. Finding the market that I fit in would also have to be another. This industry is visual and personality based – vendor and a potential client. I care about the couple FIRST and the wedding event(s) SECOND. That isn’t a message expressed across the board for many. Detailing my business to a product and service that my clients feel I am their good sis, best friend, therapist and loudest supporter is what I am constantly striving to develop.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Fancy Lane Weddings?
The Fancy Lane Wedding Events full-service and partial planning experience are about celebrating traditions, designing visual concepts, and forming a strong family and friend relationship.

We prioritize the couple’s goals for pre-planning and wedding weekend experience. The only way for us to develop a design is by utilizing our five senses. What does the couple want to smell when they are being served dinner? What cocktail(s) must be served and in their hand, at some point at this event? Are the tables dancing in front of our eyes, even though they are not moving at all? So much more.

If a guest can attend any event of mine and unravel the events’ tale within the hour, I have failed. I need the experience to be an amusement and awe that makes the guest and family want to follow each vendor, so they can learn a little bit more.

Our full-service and partial planning have distinctive event production differences; I completely design the experience based on what the couple is trying to achieve. However, our event management service still prioritizes placing the components booked into a sequence that guarantees an exceptional day of event results and support.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck is not a part of my business and life. My faith most definitely is.

My connection to my business are the couples. Working with couples connects me to my purpose. My purpose is to make sure I can help couples decrease their stress and prepare for their marriage. I know my purpose because I am unwavering in my faith.
