Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacky Thai.
Hi Jacky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey began when I shadowed a Physical Therapy clinic during my Health Science Technology rotation in my senior year of high school. This experience led me to major in Kinesiology at the University of Houston to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. During this time, I developed a passion for dance through UH FSA Modern and Galing Cru at Soundbox Dance Studios.
Unfortunately, due to life priorities, I had to step away from dance and focus on my career as a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. When COVID shut things down, I began searching for a new direction—partly due to cabin fever—and connected with Offset Med. Through their clinical mentorship program, I discovered the possibility of integrating rehab exercises with dance.
Fast-forward to last year, a good friend invited me to Red Bull Dance Your Style – Houston Regionals and Bgirl City XII. I could not believe my eyes and ears. I witnessed hardworking, talented dancers showcasing their ability to interact with each other, the music, and the crowd. The mentorship I received, along with these two events, became the catalyst for taking the first step toward creating Resilient Recovery.
Today, I am grateful for the opportunities to educate artist-athletes across Houston, Austin, and Dallas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If obstacles and challenges were an ice cream flavor, they would be Rocky Road. Some of the struggles I faced included the unforeseen costs of starting a business and breaking into the dance scene, where only a few artist-athletes knew who I was.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Resilient Recovery was established to showcase the incredible adaptability of the human body in overcoming challenges. With consistency and tenacity, every individual can demonstrate resilience in the face of life’s obstacles.
Resilient’s mission is to shift the mindset from being reactive—seeking help only after an injury occurs—to being proactive by utilizing performance training and active recovery techniques to reduce the risk of injury. Through the application of knowledge and movement strategies, we aim to empower individuals to reach their fullest potential.
Through Resilient Recovery, I am a Performance Therapist specializing in injury management for artist-athletes. It has only been a year, but I am most proud of the growth Resilient has provided me personally and professionally.
Hi Voyage readers! I hope life is treating you well, as it occasionally throws curveballs our way. Resilient Recovery is here to stay—at least in the Texas region—and remains committed to creating environments where artist-athletes can access education on self-care through mental, physical, and dietary approaches. We currently offer one-on-one performance training and recovery sessions, health and wellness workshops, and on-site event coverage.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Let’s collaborate to provide dancers with the education needed to be autonomous with proactive care!
