Today we’d like to introduce you to James Perryman.
Hi James, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
(This will be your second time interviewing me)
In 2014 I attended SamVerly Barber College in Atlanta Georgia. I graduated barber college in 2015. While cutting hair at Tru Kutz, I noticed how many men were not taking care of their beards properly. At that time, in 2015 there were not many products to help me on their beard journey. That’s when Joe Finn Collection was created. It was 2016 I formulated premium products to solve the problems men were having with their grooming.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Joe Finn was not the company you see now in 2016. There were many failed test, it took a lot of financial investing, I was told numerous times that what I was doing wouldn’t work. I had people back out of commitments and partnerships at the last minute. The plan did not go as planned, there were detours and rerouting, that’s a part of becoming successful. No matter the tough time, you stay the course! Choosing the right packaging, the correct ingredients for a healthy beard came with lots of trial and many hours of research.

Joe Finn Collection is a luxury men’s grooming and lifestyle brand rooted in heritage, culture, and excellence. One of our proudest brand moments was receiving the official proclamation from the City of Houston, recognizing March 16th as “Mr. James Perryman & The Joe Finn Collection Day.” That moment validated that the work we’re doing goes beyond commerce, it impacts community, inspires confidence, and honors the past while empowering the future.
Another major milestone for our brand was partnering with Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina, a prestigious HBCU, through the incredible support and connection of EXCLUSIVELY•HBCU. This collaboration allowed Joe Finn Collection to serve a new generation of leaders and continue expanding our impact in collegiate markets.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck, I know it has only been GOD’S direction to have me move and navigate the way my business has grown. Even the shortcomings and obstacles I have faced.
