Exploring Life & Business with Jasmine Ervin, LPC, LCDC of Revive Therapy and Consulting Services, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Ervin, LPC, LCDC.

Hi Jasmine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Dallas, TX, to two medical professionals, so you’d think I’d naturally follow the family blueprint: scrubs, stethoscope, and steady hours. But nope—while my parents were all about medicine, I was the kid everyone called for advice. By the time I became a counselor’s aide my senior year at Cedar Hill High School, I knew exactly where my heart was: helping people untangle their feelings.

Of course, in 2010 that wasn’t the “hot” career path—especially in communities of color. My parents pushed hard for nursing, and I actually tried. I went to Stephen F. Austin State University, then transferred to UT Arlington, and spent four long years in nursing classes before finally admitting what I’d been screaming inside: I hate this. I wasn’t being true to myself.

By 21, I was juggling a full-time salaried role at UTA as a Lead Student Accounts Advisor while finishing my degree—a balancing act that opened the door to my career in education. Over the next decade, I wore many hats: teacher, advisor, counselor, and leader in both K–12 and higher education. Along the way, two incredible mentors nudged me back toward my first love—psychology and counseling. One reignited my passion for education, teaching, and people, while the other encouraged me to pursue my counseling license.

That push truly changed the trajectory of my life. I went on to earn a master’s in psychology from Capella University, then a master’s in professional counseling from Amberton University. From there, I became licensed in both chemical dependency and professional counseling, which finally allowed me to step fully into my calling. And because I’ve never been one to stop learning, I’m now pursuing my PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Working in this field has also opened doors I never imagined—from sharing my passion for mental health on platforms like KRLD and Dr. Phil’s Merit Street Media to speaking on podcasts and presenting at various events. Each opportunity has been a chance to advocate, educate, and remind people that healing and growth are possible.

Life wasn’t all textbooks and titles—I navigated marriage, divorce, and leadership roles in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., where I’ve proudly served as Southwestern Regional Recording Secretary since 2022. Those experiences gave me both grit and heart, and ultimately inspired me to start my own private practice, Revive Therapy and Counseling Services, PLLC, in 2024.

Since then, I’ve stepped fully into entrepreneurship, relocated to Houston, and embraced the rollercoaster of building something that’s mine. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been rewarding beyond measure. At the end of the day, I’m just grateful to be living out my purpose—helping others heal, grow, and thrive—while continuing to grow as a clinician, entrepreneur, and woman of color in the mental health field.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
the reality of being newly diagnosed with ADHD and ASD. There is no playbook for that kind of journey.

What carried me through was God’s grace, the wisdom of my therapist, and the support of my community. And though the process was painful, it gave me strength I didn’t know I had. It taught me resilience, determination, and a deeper compassion for myself and others.

My mantra, Revive and Thrive, is more than a phrase—it’s a testimony of restoration, healing, and self-discovery. I believe my life is proof that even in the hardest chapters, you can still rise, rebuild, and step boldly into who you were meant to be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Revive Therapy and Counseling Services, PLLC, is truly my heart and passion. I started it in 2024 with a simple mission: to help people revive and thrive. At Revive, we walk alongside clients through some of life’s toughest moments—whether that’s navigating trauma or PTSD, working through anxiety or depression, managing ADHD, ASD, or other cognitive differences, mood and personality disorders, healing from substance use, or adjusting to big life and career transitions. We also support adolescents (14+), adults, couples, and families, and I offer specialized approaches like EMDR for deeper trauma work.

What makes Revive different is that it’s not a “one-size-fits-all” kind of therapy. Every person’s story matters, and every person deserves care that feels safe, affirming, and tailored just for them. My own journey has taught me the power of restoration and healing, and I’ve poured that into the way I show up for my clients. At the end of the day, Revive isn’t just a practice—it’s a space for growth, self-discovery, and transformation.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is simple: be coachable, stay humble, and don’t shy away from discomfort. Believe in yourself, even when things feel uncertain, and seek out mentors—not just in your field, but also those outside of it who can teach you skills that transfer across any path.

Be okay with not knowing everything. No one does. The key is being willing to learn—from people with more experience, less experience, or even just a different perspective. There’s a lesson in every interaction if you’re open to it. When I look back, I wish I had given myself permission to embrace not knowing, to ask more questions, and to trust that growth often in comes from the uncomfortable moments. The journey isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about staying curious, resilient, and committed to becoming the best version of yourself
