Exploring Life & Business with Jeremy Brown of Cajun Babies LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Brown

Hi Jeremy , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Well, I’m initially from New Orleans, Louisiana, I moved to Houston, Texas, a little after hurricane Katrina. While living in Houston, Texas, I had to get adjusted to the different types of food. I then came to realize that I was missing the culture of New Orleans food, with that being said I started In my early 20s, attempting to mimic the food that I grew up eating. Now, I did not grow up in a household where the traditional foods of New Orleans Louisiana is cooked. My parents who both had full-time jobs cooked things like spaghetti, meatballs, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, red beans and rice, cream style corn and rice and sandwiches and chips you know things like that. Between my mom and my dad, it was actually their parents who were the prize chef quality cookers in the family. My point is, is that I did not have prior experience in the kitchen to mimic how great my grandparents cooked. My experience came from me, attempting to cook like my grandparents messing up and messing up over and over again until I started to figure it out. I’ve gotten older I have found my way in the kitchen and I also still have a lot of learning to do. I have about 11 years of restaurant experience which entailed being a server, actually starting as a host, a bartender and for a short period of time an assistant manager. However, none of those positions has anything to do with cooking. I will say that I feel that I have a slight advantage of people that have no experience, for instance properly (plating) dishes, we all eat with our eyes first so presentation is key, customer service, making sure the food comes out hot, and understanding what to do when a customer has a complaint and things like that. When Covid hit is when I left the restaurant industry, and I immediately got into the trucking industry instead. So, how I came up with Cajun Babies LLC Is pretty interesting. I was driving an 18 wheeler to Dallas Texas, and around this time I discovered that I can get a lot done mentally if I turned the radio off, I would literally drive 10hrs straight brainstorming in silence and writing down my ideas and notable thoughts. Along with that, I was able to hear myself think and connect with God. One day God told me that it was time for me to stick to something that I love to do, something that I would do for free if I had to, and that was cooking. So the name Cajun Babies came to me as I was over the road driving towards Denton, Tx to drop of a load. As I finally came to the conclusion that cooking is what God wants me to do, I excitingly was ready to LLC a name that I had been holding onto for years, just to find out that it had been takin already! I was devastated! I then asked God to help me come up with a better name that was meaningful. So my kids came to mind, and Cajun food was most definitely blended within the same thought process. So it hit me! CAJUN BABIES! I was so excited I immediately called a selected few and asked what they thought. They all were like YES, that’s the one. I then waited until I checked for the availability with the Secretary of State, and it was available, once I solidified the name I instantly got started with a newly found passion. I started 2024 off in church and learned that the goal should be to move in silence and specifically to move with (intention). I am a small business and I’m taking things as slow as it needs to go until I reach my personal goal. Needless to say metaphorically speaking CAJUN BABIES LLC represents my kids, and obviously the City of New Orleans and the whole State of Louisiana.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say it’s been a smooth road and also has not so smooth, due to me learning as I go. Starting a business with no prior experience is not for the weak, lol. I’ve been in situations where I’m almost ready to cry due to being frustrated over being a perfectionist to my own standards. There is so much more than cooking that I have to tend to in order for my business to stay solid, and because I understand that, I’m taking things very slowly, making sure that every move that’s made is strategic, all while still working a full-time job driving trucks. So in essence, my biggest challenge being on someone else’s clock lol, however, I do understand that I have to do what I have to do in order to get where I want to get. I like to refer to Cajun Babies LLC as a category five hurricane that’s brewing in the Gulf of Mexico and anticipating landfall but continuing to be patient within the process and waiting my turn.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
So at the moment, my organization specializes in caterings , meal preps, seafood plates gumbo and more…To book with us, I’m typically available on the weekends and I work on a pre-order basis. What sets us apart from others is the passion to see other people happy when they eat our food, and still having fun doing so. I understand that the Cajun/ Creole market is so big and imitated, but with me actually being from New Orleans, Louisiana, and understanding everything that comes behind the Cajun and Creole palette and culture, I would say that is another slight advantage that I have over most Louisiana based restaurants. Oh how could I forget another thing that sets me apart from others is that I cook to my customers liking, meaning that if you like your food more on the bland side, I can accommodate that for you and if you like things more on the spicy side, I can also accommodate that for you as well, definitely could not forget to mention that. Im currently open to any help for catering events that I can’t handle, so any volunteers please feel free to contact us. Also any investors looking for a small business to flourish I’m definitely open for that opportunity to help Cajun Babies LLC grow.
