Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse San.
Hi Jesse, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My fiancée, Michelle and I have been together for 13 years. In 2018, I completed my master’s program in human biology and moved from Michigan to Houston to be with her. I wasn’t sure what the next step in my career would be, but I knew I loved cooking. In my transition, I started baking a few things for friends and friends-of-friends and cooking small, in-home dinners. It’s really just grown from there.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth or fun journey. When we first started, I was very much in a phase of trying to figure out what I was passionate about. From balancing our relationship, our partnership and two full-time jobs in this endeavor, Michelle and I learned together. Frankly, we didn’t know what we were doing! We had a range of challenges that included lacking the knowledge of starting a small business, finessing our understanding of time management in a kitchen outside of our own, navigating our work-style as a professional team…the list goes on. All of our clients took a huge leap of faith in us, and we are immensely thankful. They have seen us evolve as a team, and specifically me, grow as a home cook. We’ve made mistakes along the way, but after every gig, even now, we sit down and evaluate what went well and where we can improve.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a small team that specializes in custom bakery goods (IE sugar cookies and cakes), and in-home meals for intimate gatherings. We are driven by providing quality food, service and experience for our clients and collaborate closely in the development of design, flavor profiles and menus. We are the most proud of our customer experience and the relationships we’ve built along the way. Being entrusted with our clients’ life events is always an incredible honor.
How do you define success?
I could easily say that success means we are consistently building our client base, overdelivering in expectations, meeting financial goals, finding ways to grow as professionals in this space – the list goes on.
For us, it’s personal. Success means that we are both fulfilled, growing individually and together, but most importantly, having FUN. We both must be satisfied with the work we are creating and producing, but there needs to be balance in our relationship as well. At the end of the day, our partnership and ambition are the foundation to our success. Making space to nurture our partnership is always a priority to ensure we continue to thrive.
