Exploring Life & Business with Jewel Philip of Cherub’s Touch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewel Philip.

Hi Jewel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story—I won’t even say it starts back in 2020 since I’d like to believe that all things beauty have really always been a part of my life in one way or another. But since we’re talking about how I got started, we’ll go with September of 2020. I was in my sophomore year of high school, and obviously it was the pandemic. I looked around and saw that a lot of people online had side hustles that they were doing at that time, and I thought to myself, “I want a side hustle too.” That’s where my love for everything nails grew. I started watching YouTube videos of different nail techs and nail creation enthusiasts and thought to myself that I too would offer this as a service. Fast forward to now, I still have that same love that I did back then, and I do hope to grow it into something bigger than it is currently right now.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not; it still isn’t. Some struggles currently are low income and not having necessary funds to purchase certain items at the moment for services. At one point, I was not allowed to do nail services out of my house, as I do live with my parents currently—simply because there was no space available, and I also, again going back to funding, did not have funds to rent or purchase my own space.

As you know, we’re big fans of Cherub’s Touch. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a young nail technician with my New York State Nail Specialty license, obtained by the mercies of God, and I currently offer structured gel manicure services. and also gel pedicure services. I would say what sets me apart from others is my genuine heart to see others feel revived, refreshed, and beautiful when they come to me. I’ve never had an opportunity like this before, so I’m not even sure what to say; please forgive me. I thank God for my friend Chi (Kate) for mentioning my name for this. But, if any of your readers know of any ways for someone like myself to get funding in any way to help support the growth of my business, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
If you couldn’t tell already from my responses or my Instagram page, I am a Christian, and Jesus is the center of everything I do! It is my prayer that whoever receives my services experiences the true peace, love, and joy of Christ!
