Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Blackmon.
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2021, during the height of the COVID pandemic, I founded Blackmon Tutoring out of a genuine desire to help young students. At that time, remote learning highlighted the significant gaps in educational access, especially for families who couldn’t afford big-name tutoring services. Seeing this need, I decided to bridge that gap by offering affordable, high-quality tutoring.
As word spread and students began to see real results, Blackmon Tutoring quickly grew. We expanded from virtual sessions to in-home tutoring across the Dallas area, and eventually we were contracted by school districts. And spread nationwide. We also introduced summer and seasonal camps, broadening our impact even further.
My passion for education stems from my own experiences. Growing up, I didn’t always see the value of education until I reached college. As a professional baseball player, I was fortunate to receive a scholarship, but I realized many kids don’t have those same opportunities. That’s why I’m committed to ensuring every student has access to the support they need.
A pivotal moment for me was during junior college when the University of Texas offered me a scholarship, contingent on improving my grades. That experience taught me the profound importance of education at any age, and it transformed my mindset. I went on to become an academic honor roll student and realized that my mission was to give back and help others succeed.
Today, Blackmon Tutoring has evolved into comprehensive educational agency. We now offer a wide range of services, including homeschool support, test prep, homework help, mentorship, and even sports activities. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m so grateful for the impact we’re making in our community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A lot of struggles along the way with bad business partnerships, and just boot, strapping it from the ground up because of not having as much to run the business. Also difficulty scaling and being capped out, so having to figure out new avenues to make money or pivot in certain seasons, when revenue may be low.
