Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Humphries.
Hi Kathryn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Carla and I first worked together in 2011 when I joined her New York-based PR agency CMN PR. We specialized in launching startups and lifestyle businesses across design, art, wellness, fashion, tech, food and beverage. Together we have a combined 30+ years of experience working with leading brands such as Gap, Spindrift, Williams Sonoma Inc., Target, Shiseido, Nest, Nextdoor, to name a few – as well as dozens of startups, small businesses and creators such as Yohana, Mirth, Courtney Barton, Blue Hills in Round Top and many others. We also have worked with female leaders and executives in design, food, fashion, art, tech and business to build their personal brands.
In early 2020, we joined forces again. The media landscape was (and still is) undergoing massive change. Social media and creating an online presence as a small business had become more important than ever, but hiring a PR agency or consultant was often out of reach for small business owners and creators. We wanted to rethink the old PR model and offer an approachable solution for small business owners, creative entrepreneurs and content creators not only to build their dream business, but to learn the fundamentals of brand strategy, PR, and content marketing. We wanted to simplify the fundamentals of PR that are often misunderstood or overlooked. Which is how we came up with “All You Need” meaning we cut out the fluff and help you focus on the building blocks that will move the needle and build momentum over time.
All You Need began as a series of online courses and bootcamps and in 2024 we launched the AYN Membership, our private community of up and coming lifestyle brands, interior designers, artists, creators, influencers, experts and small business owners. While our foundational courses: How to Build a Brand Foundation and How to Do Your Own PR were very well received, our customers were asking for more. Learning to do your own PR is an ongoing commitment that grows and evolves with the needs of your business. The membership provides monthly ongoing support and accountability at a very accessible price point. Our growing community is based all over, and it has been so rewarding getting to be a part of their growth, and to see our members connecting and supporting one another.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business is never a smooth road. Ever! There are always learning curves and a market that is moving super fast around you. From teaching ourselves digital course creation and graphic design to dealing with copy cats, staying on top of social media, AI, and the ever changing media landscape, we’ve embraced the bumpy road that is part of the process. While we had originally planned to scale much faster, our commitment to supporting small business owners from day one has been unwavering. Slow and steady often wins the race and we are in this for the long haul.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are PR and small business consultants who are doing things differently. All You Need is a completely new approach to PR, brand strategy, and everything that comes along with it including social media, content strategy, influencer and brand partnerships, etc. We tossed out the antiquated” traditional PR playbook” and created a more accessible way to help small business owners, designers, artists, creators, experts, and lifestyle brands grow with intention.
What sets us apart is our approach: we combine decades of PR experience with a deep understanding of how modern creators, small businesses, and digital-first brands actually operate. We don’t believe in gatekeeping or complicated jargon. Instead, we teach people how to tell their stories with confidence and create sustainable momentum, even with limited time and resources.
We want small business owners and creators to know that building visibility doesn’t have to feel overwhelming, and you don’t need a big PR budget to get results. With a plan, guidance, and accountability, you can slowly and steadily build a brand you’re proud of.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Houston is underrated! It’s a huge, diverse city with art, culture, incredible food, and easy access to all major cities around the world. It’s also home for me (Kathryn), and it’s where a lot of my family and friends are.
Not a fan of Houston drivers, freeways, and the brutal summer heat.
