Today we’d like to introduce you to Kischa.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I often say my story didn’t begin in a boardroom or a courtroom, it began in my grandmother’s kitchen. She was born in 1912, a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and old-fashioned grace. I was raised by her hands — literally and spiritually — and she became the anchor that steadied me through some of life’s hardest storms.
By the age of sixteen, I was a teen mother determined not to become a statistic. I finished high school with honors, worked full-time, and later became a police detective/attorney for HPD— a role that demanded strength, discipline, and resilience. Sixteen years in law enforcement shaped me into someone who could handle almost anything… except slowing down.
Eventually, I transitioned into law and built a career as an attorney. My work in criminal and family law taught me the power of justice and compassion working together. But over time, I began to realize that strength alone wasn’t enough — I had to learn softness again. That realization became the seed of my memoir, Raised by 1912, and my creative project Becoming Still.
Today, I’m an attorney, writer, and storyteller devoted to helping others find healing through truth and gentleness. I write about family, faith, and the beauty of becoming whole — not despite life’s hardships, but because of them. My story is one of resilience, reinvention, and the quiet courage to begin again.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth, but it has been sacred in its lessons.
Serving the Houston Police Department was a demanding career, one that taught me leadership, endurance, and how to remain calm in chaos. I balanced those years with the challenges of motherhood and building my private law practice, pouring everything I had into both service and success. But everything changed after a major on-duty car accident that left me with traumatic brain injury. What followed were two years of outpatient rehabilitation at TIRR, where I had to relearn not only how to manage my cognitive recovery but also how to live with a new version of myself. The injury took a toll on my marriage, which ultimately ended in divorce, and for a time, I felt like my entire identity had been stripped away.
Yet, that season of brokenness became the foundation for my becoming. Through faith, therapy, and stillness, I began to rebuild — softer, slower, but stronger in spirit. My experience taught me that healing isn’t about returning to who you were before the storm; it’s about learning to honor who you’re becoming because of it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the Law Office of Kischa Hernandez, PLLC, we provide compassionate yet strategic legal representation in family law, probate, estate planning, guardianships, and related matters. My practice is rooted in the belief that legal guidance should not only protect your rights but also preserve your peace.
I founded my own law firm to continue serving the community in a different way. My background in law enforcement allows me to approach each case with discipline, integrity, and empathy. I understand that most clients come to me during some of the most difficult seasons of their lives, and my goal is to bring clarity, direction, and calm to the chaos.
What sets my practice apart is the human-centered approach behind every file and every client. We blend professionalism with personal care, ensuring that people feel seen, heard, and respected — not just represented. I’m proud that my firm has earned a reputation for thoroughness, transparency, and genuine advocacy.
Beyond the courtroom, I’m equally passionate about education and empowerment. I’m currently rebuilding my Texas Pro Se brand — a platform designed to help individuals navigate the legal system with confidence and access justice more affordably.
At its core, my work is about service — helping people protect what matters most while restoring a sense of peace and stability to their lives.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that has been most essential to my success is resilience with grace.
For many years, my strength was defined by endurance — pushing through long hours, complex cases, and personal challenges without pause. But over time, I learned that true resilience isn’t just about surviving what life throws at you; it’s about doing so without losing your softness, compassion, or sense of purpose.
My ability to stay calm under pressure — something honed during my years in law enforcement and the courtroom — is matched by my empathy for the people I serve. Whether I’m guiding a client through a family crisis or rebuilding my life after personal loss, I lead with both discipline and heart.
I believe success comes from the balance between strength and stillness — the courage to rise, and the humility to pause and heal when needed. That balance is what allows me to serve others with authenticity, clarity, and peace.
