Today we’d like to introduce you to LaKisha Mosley.
Hi LaKisha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the owner & CEO of The LM Experience, an event consulting firm. I have been in business for 11 years. This year I stopped working with clients and transitioned into a consulting role with my company. After having a mental breakdown, I shifted my focus more to mental health and wellness. I now host mental health and wellness events for women entrepreneurs. I am most excited about creating a safe space for women entrepreneurs to share their thoughts and feelings about mental health. When I had my breakdown, there were no resources or spaces I could seek help from. I felt alone and unsure of what to do next. I never want anyone to feel that way, so I started a mental health collective. I have a few luxury events in the work as well as digital products.
I also work for an amazing non-profit called the WBEA, which stands for the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance. I am the Corporate Relations and Event Coordinator. Our organization assists women-owned businesses in getting certified with the WBENC certification. We provide training, business consultations and networking opportunities to help WBEs(Women Business Entities) grow and sustain their businesses. As a WBE myself, I’ve been able to use my certification to leverage many opportunities for my business. That designation gets me into rooms with senior-level executives of supplier diversity and contract procurement.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I have struggled with having the wrong staff members, having horrible clients, and not having the right processes in place. There were times when I literally was living client paycheck to client paycheck. I’ve struggled with mental illness and not knowing if I would recover enough to continue my business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
The LM Experience is an event consulting firm that helps high-end coaches, and course creators sell out their programs by producing immersive in-person and online events that increase visibility, create inclusive communities, and yield profits. What sets us apart is the ability to create amazing experiences that are high in engagement and create memories for our clients for years to come.
I am most proud of being a black woman-owned firm that has been in business for 11 years.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I actually have degrees in criminal justice and HR management. It was never my intention to become an entrepreneur. I struggle with persistent depressive disorder and advocate for other minority woman business owners who struggle with mental illness as well.
