Exploring Life & Business with LaToya Mann of Glow Up Pilates & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaToya Mann.

Hi LaToya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Owning a Pilates studio wasn’t necessarily on my bingo card. I’m a licensed attorney and my professional background is in business development and regulatory compliance. I previously worked for large law firms and in the tech industry.

Glow Up Pilates & Wellness is the result of my own “Glow Up” journey that started in the fall of 2022. I was in a difficult relationship, I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror and I had truly put myself on the back burner. I made the decision to prioritize my health, wellness and happiness which led me to Pilates. It was also extremely important that my children had a mom who was happy, healthy and whole! I began attending Pilates classes in Houston and I found the classes to be a lot more challenging than I anticipated! I thought I was going to put on a cute matching set and do some graceful stretching!

I loved my classes in Houston, but I live in the suburbs of Pearland. So, it was difficult to attend classes as regularly as I wanted to due to the distance. That’s when the idea for Glow Up started forming in my mind. I wanted the residents of Pearland to have a beautiful studio, sauna, wellness amenities and led by comprehensively certified Pilates instructors.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was able to move from the idea of Glow Up to the execution of it relatively quickly and smoothly. I was fortunate to start the studio with a team of excellent instructors. We have been able to build a loyal community in the Pearland area over the last year of operation! Our members know each other, they share our joys and their difficult moments.

Finding the most effective way to market the studio was initially a challenge and continues to be something I work to improve upon. We are small business and don’t have the marketing machine of a franchise studio. But, we have partnered with an amazing marketing agency and that has made a huge difference in our visibility and lead generation!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What were you like growing up?
I was the pre-teen/teen who would save her allowance to purchase magazines! I was a avid reader of Seventeen, Teen and later In Style. I don’t know if that was the interest of the average girl my age, but I think it showed an early interest in self care and personal development. I had a subscription to all of them and would eventually drag them from high school, to college and law school! I grew up an only child, but had a really amazing group of friends that became like family.
