Exploring Life & Business with Lindsay Maxwell-Stewart of Alexander Recruiting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Maxwell-Stewart.

Lindsay Maxwell-Stewart

Hi Lindsay, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Since college, I’ve found immense satisfaction in crafting resumes and providing career guidance, unaware of the potential career path it could lead to. In 2008, I held a pivotal role as the GM/Clinic Administrator at a nationwide spa franchisee, where I spearheaded various HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, retention, and training. Witnessing the exponential growth of the business, from zero to over 80 staff members, fueled by my recruitment efforts, was incredibly fulfilling.

Between 2015 and 2018, I transitioned to the realm of higher education and continued to leverage my HR skills in a new setting. However, the demands of balancing work with family responsibilities, particularly with two children and one on the autism spectrum, took a toll on me. During this challenging period in 2018, I made a pivotal decision. Recognizing the need for a more flexible schedule to accommodate my family’s needs, I took the leap to invest in myself and founded Alexander Recruiting.

Since then, embarking on this entrepreneurial journey has been immensely rewarding, and I’ve never looked back.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business has proven to be quite the uphill climb, to say the least! Despite facing numerous hurdles, from combating stereotypes as a female CEO to navigating a fiercely competitive market and honing in on my niche with limited resources, I’ve persisted. Along the way, amidst the challenges, there have been rewards, reaffirming my determination to press forward.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Here are some key pieces of advice for new business owners that I live by:

Start with a Clear Vision: Clearly define your business goals, values, and mission. Having a clear vision will guide your decisions and keep you focused on what matters most.

Understand Your Market: Conduct thorough market research to understand your target audience, competition, and industry trends. This will help you identify opportunities and challenges, allowing you to develop effective strategies for success.

Build a Strong Team: Surround yourself with talented and passionate individuals who share your vision and complement your skills. Invest in hiring and retaining top talent, as your team will play a crucial role in the success of your business.

Focus on Customer Experience: Prioritize delivering exceptional customer experiences. Listen to customer feedback, address their needs promptly, and continuously strive to exceed their expectations. Happy customers are more likely to become repeat customers and advocates for your brand.

Manage Finances Wisely: Keep a close eye on your finances from the start. Develop a realistic budget, monitor cash flow regularly, and make strategic financial decisions to ensure the financial health of your business. Consider working with a financial advisor or accountant to help you navigate complex financial matters.

Embrace Adaptability: Be prepared to adapt and evolve in response to changing market conditions, customer preferences, and industry trends. Stay flexible and open-minded, and be willing to pivot your strategies when necessary to stay competitive.

Prioritize Time Management: As a business owner, time is your most valuable resource. Prioritize tasks, delegate effectively, and focus on high-impact activities that drive business growth. Establish a work-life balance to avoid burnout and maintain long-term sustainability.

Seek Mentorship and Guidance: Don’t hesitate to seek advice and guidance from experienced entrepreneurs, mentors, or industry professionals. Their insights and wisdom can help you navigate challenges, avoid common pitfalls, and accelerate your business growth.

Stay Resilient: Entrepreneurship is a journey filled with ups and downs. Stay resilient in the face of setbacks and challenges and maintain a positive attitude. Learn from failures, adapt, and keep moving forward with determination and perseverance.

Celebrate Milestones: Take the time to celebrate achievements and milestones, no matter how small. Recognize the hard work and dedication of your team and use these moments as opportunities to reflect on your progress and inspire continued success.
