Exploring Life & Business with Lindsey Buford of Lola’s Lash Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Buford

Hi Lindsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My path has been one of passion, persistence, and personal growth, deeply shaped by the loss of a family member that set me on my current course. After working as a medical assistant in Houston for six years, following the passing of my mother to bone marrow cancer, I found myself burnt out by the demanding nature of the job and the low pay. Despite my desire to transform lives, I wanted a career that allowed for quicker results without requiring years of school or getting too hands-on.

In my search for a new direction, I felt drawn to cosmetology, specifically eyelash extensions. This inspiration came from watching my mom prepare for work as a flight attendant. Her makeup was always impeccable—neat but glamorous. A pop of color on her lips and her signature lashes were essentials. I vividly remember the lashes she used: individual ones in a blue and white box, purchased for a dollar from the local beauty supply, paired with black glue typically used for quickweaves. It was a moment in time that left an impression on me.

Determined to find a cosmetology school in Houston that offered licensing for eyelash extensions, I searched relentlessly during my downtime. Eventually, I discovered LashingoutInk Academy at Antoine and Tidwell. I toured the school with Mrs. G., the woman who not only owned the academy but also changed my life. By the end of the tour, I was completely sold and immediately filled out the application. The following week, I put down my deposit and started school.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t easy. I was juggling a 40-hour work week in Missouri City, taking hybrid prerequisites at HCC for nursing, and putting in hours at cosmetology school. There were many moments when I doubted whether it was the right path for me—long drives home, exhausted and teary-eyed, with no social life outside of my coworkers, school peers, and lash models. But I kept going, knowing that this was the change I needed.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lola’s Lash Lab?
I chose the name Lola’s Lash Lab because I knew my business had the potential to be more than just another “lashed by __.” I wanted something that reflected abundance and success, which led me to the acronym L.O.L.A.—Lucrative Organization Living in Abundance. After some time, people naturally started calling me Lola, and it became a manifestation of what I had built. I’m incredibly proud of it. I offer top and bottom lash extensions, different colors, and glitter.

Running my business, I always keep in mind how I would want to be treated as a client: with expertise, cleanliness, and a sense of comfort. I make sure every new client leaves with an aftercare kit (shower shields to protect my work when clients shower, mascara wand keychains, a rinse bottle, loyalty cards)—something many brands overlook. Most importantly, I remain true to myself throughout the process, ensuring every experience is luxurious, personal and professional.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was quite shy but very curious. My mom encouraged me to explore various activities such as ballet, choir, gymnastics, and cheerleading, although I had a particular passion for dance. Performing in front of crowds helped build my self-confidence and self-awareness. Witnessing my mom’s battle with cancer and the care she received from medical professionals deeply impacted me. Although I did not complete nursing school, her experience profoundly influenced my decision to pursue a career in caring for others and shaped my personal and professional journey.
