Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndsay Plata.
Hi Lyndsay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story with therapeutic wellness began 21 years ago. I was fresh out of high school and was deeply interested in a career that would enable me to help people. Initially, I thought that meant nursing school, but God had other plans. However, while exploring nursing school options, I stumbled upon Memorial Hermann Massage and Spa Therapy School, and that definitely sparked my interest. I immediately signed up, loved and completed the program, and became a licensed massage therapist. Upon graduation, I began working at a local spa to gain some experience. I married the love of my life just shy of nineteen years old, and we started our family a year later. This career path allowed me to work part-time a few evenings a week, which in turn allowed us to avoid costly daycare expenses and spend quality time with our son. A few years later, we added another son to the mix, and I continued to be thankful for the flexibility that my career offered. I had the best of both worlds, being a present mom, as well as being able to contribute financially to our household. It has been rewarding and fulfilling, to say the least. Over time, I gained enough experience and showed enough leadership skills that I was asked to be the lead therapist at the spa. This position taught me so much, including the business aspect of things. This, combined with my then-twelve years of experience as a therapist, motivated me to take a leap of faith and open my own private practice. In 2017, I launched Simply Divine Wellness. The name has a dual meaning. Divine is exactly how I wanted people to feel when they left, but also, I have always and will continue to credit God with my success. I wanted it to be divinely operated, and it has been. God has blessed me and my business beyond what I ever imagined. Simply Divine Wellness has been voted “Best in Fort Bend” by the Fort Bend Herald every year since 2022. A few years ago, I was inspired to help people on a deeper level, so I went back to school to earn my bachelor’s degree in counseling. I attended Christian Bible Institute and Seminary and became a board-certified Christian counselor. Now, I can help others find healing physically, as well as mentally, emotionally, and spiritually through my practice. I have partnered with a couple of local organizations, including Katy Cares and Abigail’s Place, as well as a couple of local churches, to help provide counseling services, including marriage and family, single moms, and adolescents. Talk about rewarding! I am so very thankful to God for directing my path over the years and leading me to a place where I can offer care and support to others, as well as allowing me the flexibility to be a devoted wife and mother. I am also thankful for all the support my husband and family have shown me throughout this journey; it has truly been a gift!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been smooth? Not always, but God has always provided what was needed! When I started in 2017, I had no clue where I would find clients. I was leaving a fully booked schedule with people who had requested me specifically to start completely from scratch. A few clients insisted on following me, but that was not enough to pay the bills. This was especially nerve-wracking, since we had recently purchased a new home and really needed financial security. Slowly but surely, word spread, and referral by referral, my schedule filled again. It’s also different when you’re now the business owner, and you are wearing every hat. There was no longer a receptionist to book appointments and return calls; that was me. There was no longer a laundry service to take care of the linens each day; that was me. There was no one to notify that we were short on supplies and needed to place an order; that, too, was me. So, while it was thrilling, it was also, at times, quite overwhelming.
We’ve been impressed with Simply Divine Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Simply Divine Wellness offers a total wellness experience. What started as a therapeutic massage and spa practice has expanded to offer faith-based counseling as well. We believe in an all-encompassing wellness approach. Mind, body, and spirit. Not every client chooses to indulge in all of our services; however, we are proud to be able to offer a variety of services that can bring healing to many in various ways. We offer an array of massage therapy services, ranging from traditional Swedish and deep tissue to myofascial release, lymphatic drainage, and craniosacral massage therapy services. Facials, sugaring (waxing), and now the popular Japanese head spa service are on the service menu as well. Additionally, we offer faith-based counseling for couples, families, single parents, and teens and young adults. Our approach is to listen with a compassionate heart and offer practical applications to help navigate various life challenges.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are always welcoming new clients! We thrive on referrals and are proud to say that a majority of our clients have come by word of mouth. Partnering with Katy Cares is a great way to show support, either by donating or helping to spread the word about this amazing organization that supports single moms (often coming from a domestic violence situation). This allows us to continue helping them in a variety of ways, including much-needed counseling. That is my role at Katy Cares. They refer these ladies to me for counseling, and they never have to pay, thanks to generous donors.
