Exploring Life & Business with Margaret Cruz of Locate My Texas Home Real Estate Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margaret Cruz.

Hi Margaret, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t start out with some perfectly mapped-out plan to lead a real estate team. Like a lot of people, I started real estate because I wanted more. More flexibility for my family, more control over my income, and more meaning in the work I was doing.

Early on, I learned quickly that real estate isn’t just about transactions. It’s about people, trust, and showing up consistently even when things are hard. I made mistakes, learned from great mentors, and spent years building relationships one client at a time. That foundation taught me the value of integrity, communication, and doing the right thing even when no one is watching.

As my business grew, I felt a strong pull toward leadership. I realized I didn’t just want to sell homes, I wanted to create something bigger. That’s what led me to build Locate My Texas Home Group, powered by JWang Properties. My vision was to create a collaborative, supportive team where agents are truly equipped to grow, serve at a high level, and build sustainable careers without losing who they are in the process.

Today, I’m proud to lead a team that serves clients across Houston and the Texas Hill Country. I am even more proud of the culture we’re building. One rooted in excellence, accountability, and heart. My journey hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been intentional, and I’m grateful every day that I get to do this work alongside incredible clients, agents, and partners.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all. While building a real estate business and leading a team in Houston, I’ve learned that challenges are part of the journey, not the exception.

Early in my career, one of the biggest obstacles was learning how to confidently take up space as a woman in real estate leadership. The industry is competitive, fast-paced, and often rewards volume over values. I had to develop the confidence to trust my voice, make decisive leadership choices, and stand firm in my standards. Even when doing so felt uncomfortable. Real estate in Houston is constantly changing, and staying relevant required me to continuously adapt. Whether that meant shifting marketing strategies, navigating market fluctuations, or learning new systems and technologies.

As my business grew and I stepped into leading a real estate team, the challenges became more layered. Being a strong female leader means balancing empathy with accountability, and vision with execution. I quickly learned that leadership isn’t about doing everything yourself. Learning how to scale, delegate, and build systems was essential and not just for growth, but for sustainability. I had to shift from “doing everything myself” to trusting & empowering others while creating processes that allowed the business and the team to thrive.

This industry doesn’t pause, and learning how to scale without sacrificing personal well-being was a pivotal moment in my journey. Delegation, boundaries, and trusting my team weren’t just business decisions. They were leadership breakthroughs.

Each obstacle strengthened my perspective and clarified my purpose. Today, at Locate My Texas Home Real Estate Group, I lead with the belief that women can build high-performing real estate teams where agents are supported, clients are well-served, and integrity always comes first.

The road hasn’t been smooth but it’s been intentional. Those challenges are exactly what shaped me into the leader I am today. One grounded in experience, resilience, and a commitment to lifting others as I grow.

As you know, we’re big fans of Locate My Texas Home Real Estate Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in residential real estate throughout Houston and the surrounding areas, with additional reach into the Texas Hill Country. Our work centers on helping Houston homeowners buy, sell, and invest with clarity and confidence. From first-time buyers to move-up sellers, luxury homeowners, and investors, we’re known for combining strong local market knowledge with thoughtful guidance and strategic execution.

What sets us apart is our deep understanding of Houston’s diverse neighborhoods and ever-changing market. Houston is not a one-size-fits-all city, and real estate here requires a hyper-local approach. We focus heavily on education, pricing strategy, and proactive communication so homeowners always understand their options and feel in control of the process. Our clients know what’s happening, why it matters, and what are the next step so there are no surprises.

Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve earned. Much of our business comes from repeat clients and referrals, which speaks volumes in a relationship driven market like Houston. We lead with integrity, consistency, and care. Values that resonate strongly with homeowners navigating one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives.

What I want Houston homeowners to know is that our brand is built around advocacy and long-term relationships. Whether someone is selling a home they’ve lived in for decades, buying their first property, or planning their next move, our goal is to make the experience informed, strategic, and genuinely supportive. We don’t just help people move. We help them make confident decisions about their future in Houston.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there’s one thing I’d like readers to take away, it’s that success, whether in real estate or in life, rarely happens overnight. It’s built through consistency, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning, even when things feel uncomfortable.

For Houston homeowners, buyers, and anyone thinking about their next move, I always encourage asking questions and working with people who prioritize education and integrity over pressure. Real estate is one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll make, and you deserve guidance that feels aligned with your goals, not rushed by the market.

And for anyone who’s building a business, a career, or something of their own, don’t underestimate the power of staying true to your values. You can lead with confidence, build something meaningful, and still remain authentic. Growth doesn’t require you to lose yourself in the process.

I’m incredibly grateful to serve this community and to lead a team that believes in doing business the right way. Houston is a city full of opportunity, and it’s a privilege to help people build their futures here one home, one relationship, and one decision at a time.
