Exploring Life & Business with Mayra Leal of Madre Tierra Wellness Farm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Leal

Hi Mayra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My healing journey began a decade ago when I said “yes” to drug and alcohol recovery. At the time, I was in a very dark place and knew there had to be a better way of living. Early in my sobriety, I realized that my addiction to substances was just a symptom of deeper unresolved issues. This awareness led me to dig deeper, ask hard questions, and take responsibility for my reality. I began recognizing patterns in my life, looking at my triggers as sources of information rather than blaming the external world for my circumstances.

As I committed to this inner work, I met incredible individuals in the wellness space who inspired me to keep growing. The more I healed, the more I felt called to personal development work. A few years ago, while working as a private flight attendant for an NFL owner, I had a vision to buy land and create a small wellness retreat space. I didn’t know how it would all come together, but I trusted my soul’s calling.

During this time, I pursued certifications in yoga, integrative nutrition, breathwork, and cacao ceremony facilitation. In 2022, I began searching for land and purchased 5 acres in Livingston, TX. Shortly after, we built our first tiny home. At the time, I was still working full-time out of Indianapolis, but the call to fully dedicate myself to this work grew louder. In May 2023, I took a leap of faith and resigned from my job, trusting the vision even though I wasn’t sure how I’d bring it to life. Miraculously, my generous former boss donated to my project, allowing us to accelerate the build. By December 2023, we had completed a yoga studio, a 3-bedroom apartment that accommodates up to 10 guests, a tiny home, and glamping tents.

Our first retreat was a magical experience, drawing people from all over to support the mission. Now, a year into this journey, Madre Tierra Wellness Farm has hosted countless events and retreats. Each experience reaffirms my commitment to this space, my inner growth, and the work of guiding others through their own healing journeys. It’s been a beautiful path filled with challenges, serendipity, and profound gratitude.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road, but I’ve come to see the challenges as integral to my journey. Each obstacle has been an opportunity for growth, teaching me to trust the call and the vision even when the path ahead isn’t clear. There were times when I didn’t know how things would come together—financial uncertainty, navigating uncharted territory, and facing my own fears—but I kept leaning into faith and trusting that every challenge was working for me, not against me.

I believe these experiences are part of my soul’s evolution, helping me grow into the person I need to be to hold space for others in their healing. The road may not have been smooth, but it has been transformative, and for that, I’m deeply grateful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Every detail has been infused with intention, and our mission is to remind people that healing, connection, and joy are always within reach.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to trust—trust the process, trust the vision, and, most importantly, trust myself. There have been so many moments where the path was unclear, where fear and doubt crept in, and where I didn’t know how things would work out. But each time, I’ve learned that if I stay aligned with my purpose and take one step at a time, the universe meets me halfway.

I’ve also learned that challenges aren’t obstacles—they’re opportunities for growth. They’ve taught me resilience, patience, and how to let go of control. Every time I’ve leaned into trust instead of resistance, I’ve found clarity and strength on the other side. This journey has shown me that the external world reflects our internal state, and when I commit to doing my own inner work, everything else begins to align.

Ultimately, this lesson of trust has deepened my faith in the process and in myself, allowing me to continue building something beautiful and meaningful, even in the face of uncertainty.
