Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Johnson.
Hi Patricia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I hail from Chicago, and my family and I relocated here 20 years ago. For the past 30 years, I’ve been a hairstylist, initially starting as a nurse. However, my passion for fashion and beauty has always been a constant. Fifteen years ago, I established my salon studio, Beautifully Done Hair and Makeup Studio, in Sugar Land. My intention was to create a safe haven for women, not only for hair services but also for fostering growth, encouragement, and mutual support. Unlike many salons that are notorious for gossip and male bashing, here, we engage in sharing recipes, prayer, scripture, and holding each other accountable. My goal was to design an atmosphere that empowers women to feel beautiful from the inside out.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road is never smooth, but even during my toughest times, I knew God was with me! One of my biggest challenges was ending my marriage and becoming a single parent. Balancing a business and raising a young child was incredibly difficult. However, God helped me by providing a supportive community of friends who have become like family. They were there for me when I needed them the most. This time allowed my daughter and I to strengthen our bond and build a strong foundation for our future. Now, we are closer than ever! Then, going back to school in my forties during the COVID pandemic was extremely challenging. I had to reduce my working hours to make time for school and complete my assignments. But God made room, opened doors, and provided for me. My clients were incredibly supportive, adjusting their schedules to accommodate my studies and commitments.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Beautifully Done Hair Studio is a haven for my clients, where they come to get their hair done and unwind. I specialize in healthy hair, short pixie cuts, roller wraps, blow dries, and silk presses. I take pride in providing impeccable customer service and minimizing wait times. My salon is designed to be a place of beauty, laughter, joy, love, and a touch of divine grace, mercy, and the Holy Spirit. It’s a community of women from all walks of life, united by our shared goal of becoming better versions of ourselves daily, radiating beauty from within.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The most significant risk I’ve ever taken in my life was relocating from Chicago to Houston. My family and I abandoned everything and ventured out on faith. I didn’t even have a job when I moved here, but I had a mortgage and a six-year-old daughter to support. Despite these challenges, I persevered and diligently worked three jobs until I successfully established my hair business. As a result, God began to open doors, and my business began to flourish.
