Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Musser.
Hi Rachael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in a small, rural town in the Midwest. There was not much to do there. From a very young age, I loved style, fashion, clothes, and makeup. But with the closest mall almost 45 minutes away, it wasn’t something I got to experiment with much. So, I read magazines and looked at clothing catalogs, learning as much as I could about fashion from those. I would create outfits from things I found in those catalogs, essentially creating Look Books before I ever knew what those were.
In my early 20’s, I worked a lot of different clothing retail jobs. My favorite part of working retail was getting the opportunity to put together outfits for people. It would make my day when someone walked out of the fitting room with a giant smile on their face because they found the perfect outfit for whatever event they had coming up!
After becoming a mom, I went through what a lot of moms go through. I lost myself in the exhausting days of babyhood and toddlerhood. It’s easy to do. But I started to realize how much it took a toll on my mental well-being to look in the mirror and barely recognize myself. I had lost my sense of style completely and felt like a foreigner in my own body. Thankfully, I have an amazing husband who encouraged me to take the time, money, and energy to start exploring my style again. My mental well-being started to improve, and I gained my confidence back. I noticed how much getting dressed in something that I liked and that felt like me, really did matter.
I had dreamed of becoming a stylist for quite a few years, but it wasn’t until two years ago that I decided to actually get certified. I enrolled in school and officially become a certified personal stylist in September of 2023. It is my goal to help all moms beat that feeling of losing themselves. Every mom deserves to look good and feel good. The confidence that comes from putting on clothes you truly enjoy makes you a better wife, mother, and friend!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth and easy road; it hardly ever is! Chasing your dreams takes a lot of commitment and self-control.
I have two children that I homeschool. The struggle to balance building a business with being present and making sure my children have everything they need to succeed is a huge obstacle. I have had to make changes to the curriculum we use, adjust our schedule, and ask them to help out more around the house in order for me to make time to work.
Also, since I became certified and started trying to build my styling business, my parents have had three surgeries between the two of them, with more probably coming up this year. I have had to help take care of them during their recoveries and get them to and from doctor’s appointments.
My husband is also still completing his schooling. He also just took a big promotion at work near the end of 2023 that has required longer hours. There are days when he gets home just in time to put the kids to bed, and weekends are always dedicated to homework and school projects.
If I wanted to look for excuses as to why starting my business right now isn’t going to work out, I have plenty. And to be honest, there are days when I let those excuses win. Just last week I had a full day of crying from being overwhelmed! But thankfully, I always wake up the next day with a fresh start. I get to decide every single day how much effort I want to put into making my dreams a reality.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Everyday Mom Stylist?

My services are very reasonably priced, but I also accept payment plans to assist if needed. It truly is my passion to ensure that every mom knows how amazing she is!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Imagine how hard you think it is going to be and then multiply that by 10. Then you *might* be close to how hard it actually is.
You have to know your why. What is your driving force? Why does it light a fire in you? Keep that close to you. On your hard days, you will need the reminder as to why it is worth it!
Also, comparison is the thief of joy. It is so easy to compare yourself to others and have a very long list as to why they are better at this than you. But you have to remember you have something unique. No one can do exactly what you do in the same way that you do it for the same reasons that you do it.
