Exploring Life & Business with Scarlet Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scarlet Rodriguez.

Hi Scarlet, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started right after I graduated college. I accepted a Graduate Assistant position at Hardin-Simmons University for the women’s basketball team. My players gave me the name “Coach Scar,” and it has stuck ever since. I finished my first season as a GA and loved the experience working with my players and learning from the other coaches. Like many, the pandemic changed a lot for me and I decided to move back home to be closer to my family.

During the pandemic, I was working at Target as a cashier just to keep me busy and have some extra income. I always knew that there was something more for me and after talking with friends and family, I figured out what I was called to do. I started a side hustle in the neighborhood as a youth coach. I thought this was a perfect opportunity to connect with families and get kids moving while we were all in quarantine. Coach Scar took about a year to build. Before I knew anything about becoming an entrepreneur, I was working my side hustle more like a hobby because I genuinely loved working with kids and helping others strive for their best. I am now a full entrepreneur and turned Coach Scar into a Youth Coaching & Life Coaching business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. It has been a road of highs and lows, but I have learned to bottle up each win and build momentum off those highs. There are times when I hear that little voice in my head and it gets to talking and tells me, “what are you doing?” or “how will you be able to make this work?” It’s important for us to continue to talk to ourselves every day. I constantly have to tell myself, “YOU CAN DO THIS!” I think just like anyone else, I struggled and still continue to struggle with fear at times. I am blessed to have such a great support system that pushes me to keep going when I get stuck.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Coach Scar stands for all things bold and fierce. I am very much a pink gal and I love that my brand resonates with me so much. If you don’t know, I am 4’11, maybe 5’0 on a good day. I have never let my height get in my way. I grew up playing basketball and always played against way bigger and taller girls than me. I think it has made me who I am today. Bold and fierce.

I specialize in Youth Coaching, Life Coaching, and I recently added Social Scar: Social Media and Branding to my coaching services. Whether I have the opportunity to work with youth athletes, adults or small businesses, I love to help my clients feel great. I genuinely love helping others strive for their absolute best. That’s what I want Coach Scar to be known for.

What matters most to you? Why?
My family. My happiness. My work ethic. My faith. Without any of those factors in my life, I would not be able to get up every day and get after it.
