Today we’d like to introduce you to Shabanese Nixon.
Hi Shabanese, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Shabanese Nixon, a Houston-area realtor, wife, mom of two and educator. My professional background is actually in psychology and education, and I’ve earned two postgraduate degrees along the way. Teaching, communicating, and connecting with people have always been a big part of who I am, and those qualities naturally followed me throughout my life.
My story has had quite a few chapters. Haha At 23, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and had to regain my ability to walk. I’ve experienced divorce, while going back to school and earned two postgraduate degrees while raising a toddler, relocated to Houston, purchased my first home here for my daughter and me, and started over without family support nearby. Today, I’m remarried, raising two beautiful daughter’s daughters (8) and (1), continuing my career in education, and growing a real estate business that I’m incredibly passionate about.
My husband and daughters are a huge part of my why. I want my girls to grow up seeing that they can have goals, build something meaningful, continue learning, and still prioritize the people who matter most. I’m not chasing perfection or trying to make balance look effortless. I’m building a life where my career and my family can both have a meaningful place.
Motherhood has shaped me tremendously. I’m ambitious and I love what I do, but I’m also intentional about being present. Some days that means working with clients, designing educational experiences, and handling business, and other days it means putting everything down for swim lessons, shopping trips, family time, or simply being Mom. I don’t believe success has to come at the expense of being present for the people you love.
Going through so many different seasons of life has made me resilient, but it has also made me very relatable. I know what it feels like to start over. I know what it feels like to make major decisions when life is changing around you, and I know how meaningful it can be to finally have something that represents stability and a new beginning.
My faith has been a constant through all of those seasons. Isaiah 41:10 has stayed with me as a reminder that even during uncertainty, I’m never navigating life alone. I’ve learned to keep going, trust God, stay consistent, and understand that sometimes the people and opportunities meant for you come together differently than you expected.
My real estate business has become another extension of who I already am. I’m naturally someone who asks questions, researches, explains things, advocates for people, and wants those around me to feel comfortable and informed. I’m responsive, dependable, and very hands-on with my clients because that’s simply how I operate.
I also understand personally that a home can represent so much more than an address. My own homeownership journey represented a fresh start for my daughter and me. That experience is something I carry with me when I’m helping someone else navigate their own chapter.
At the end of the day, I’m a wife, a mom, a woman of faith, an educator, and someone who has learned how to rebuild, grow, and keep moving forward. Real estate just happens to be one of the ways I now get to use all of those pieces of myself to help other people do the same.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges in my life came when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Having to regain my ability to walk, that experience changed my perspective on life at a very young age. It taught me resilience, strengthened my faith, and showed me that circumstances don’t have to determine what I’m capable of accomplishing. MS is part of my story, but I’ve never allowed it to define my story. That mindset has carried me through motherhood, my career, continuing my education, starting over, and ultimately building the life and business I have today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is really an extension of who I am. I’m a Houston-area realtor, but I’m also an educator at heart, so education naturally became a huge part of how I do real estate. I want my clients to understand what they’re doing, why they’re doing it, and feel confident in the decisions they make along the way.
I help with buying, selling, new construction, relocation, leasing, and investing, and I especially enjoy working with first-time buyers and military families. I’m backed by Blair Realty Group, which gives my clients the resources and experience of an established Houston brokerage while still getting the personal experience of working directly with me.
I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about the experience people have. I’m responsive, I’m hands-on, I ask questions, I advocate for my clients, and I’m going to tell you the truth even when it may not be what you want to hear. I don’t believe in pressuring someone into a decision just to get to the closing table. Sometimes the best advice I can give a client is to wait, walk away, or look at another option.
I’m probably most proud that my brand actually feels like me. “Education First. Relationships Always.” isn’t something I came up with just because it sounds good. It’s truly how I operate. I want people to feel comfortable asking me questions, calling me when they’re unsure about something, and knowing they have someone in their corner.
Of course, I love handing over keys and celebrating at the closing table, but the relationships I build along the way mean even more to me. I want to be the person you call for real estate years from now and the person you feel comfortable sending your family and friends to because you know they’ll be taken care of.
At the end of the day, I’m building something that feels genuine to me: real relationships, good education, strong advocacy, and a level of service I would want for my own family.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Integrity, without question. I believe who you are when no one is watching matters just as much as who you are when everyone is. I’m big on doing the right thing, being honest even when it’s not the easiest answer, and treating people the way I would want someone to treat my own family. That carries into my personal life, my career, and especially my business. I never want success at the expense of my values. For me, if I can build something successful while staying true to who I am and genuinely doing right by people, that’s success I can be proud of.
