Hi Shalecia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a professional hairstylist and serial entrepreneur. I’m from Indianapolis, IN. I’m currently 25 years old, and my journey began at 16 when I was a sophomore in high school. Growing up in a socioeconomically disadvantaged area with limited guidance presented significant challenges, but these experiences instilled a deep drive and determination in me. I was resolute in not becoming a product of my environment and believed wholeheartedly in my ability to achieve my dreams through perseverance and hard work.
The early years of my career were marked by a focus on survival and relentless goal-setting. At 20, I made the bold move from Indianapolis to Atlanta, GA. This transition proved to be transformative, allowing me to elevate my career significantly. In Atlanta, I had the opportunity to work with a range of celebrity clients, generate multiple streams of income, and become a mentor and teacher to hundreds of women.
After four successful years in Atlanta, I recently relocated to Houston. I am excited to continue pushing the boundaries of my career and achieving even greater goals here. My ambition is to make a significant impact in Houston and to inspire others from similar backgrounds, demonstrating that one’s origins do not define their potential. This journey, guided by faith and the grace of God, has been incredible, and I’m committed to continuing to strive for excellence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has not been without its challenges. As a Christian woman guided by my faith, I’ve relied heavily on God to lead my steps throughout my career. One of the most significant struggles I faced was the lack of guidance and support from my family. Building my career independently was a formidable challenge, and at times, it was a difficult reality to accept, especially when I was younger.
Despite these hurdles, my faith has been a cornerstone of my perseverance. I believe that God has instilled in me the desires and passion that drive me forward. As I’ve matured, I’ve come to see these challenges as opportunities for growth and resilience. My faith continues to provide me with the strength and encouragement needed to overcome obstacles and remain dedicated to my goals.
