Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrill Mohan.
Hi Sherrill, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Six years ago, I was working nights in a hospital sleep lab, conducting sleep studies. By then, I had spent more than 15 years in the field and genuinely loved working with patients. Even in undergrad, I knew I wanted a career in healthcare where I could help people in meaningful ways. After exploring several professional medical paths, I found my way into sleep medicine and trained as a Sleep Technologist. It was an incredible foundation—one that gave me deep insight into the importance of sleep and its powerful impact on overall well-being.
Over time, I became increasingly curious about how sleep affected not just individuals, but families and relationships. When COVID hit, it gave me space to reflect. Although my hospital position offered stability and security, I began to crave something more independent and creative. I knew I wanted to expand my impact—but returning to school after so many years felt daunting.
As a South Asian woman, I had long believed my life needed to follow a particular path shaped by tradition and cultural expectations. It was what was modeled for me, yet it never fully felt like my own. At 40, I found myself wrestling with the idea that I was somehow behind—caught between feeling too late to start over and too unfulfilled to stay the same. So I challenged myself. I stepped into unfamiliar spaces, built new friendships, dated differently, and even joined a women’s tackle football team. Eventually, I enrolled in a Master’s program in Psychology with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy.
As I returned to school, I realized I wasn’t alone. Many women—and men—felt similarly stuck between expectation and authenticity. That realization shifted everything. I understood that this was my opportunity to write my own story. I began to see relationships, community, and identity through a broader lens. I embraced the idea that I didn’t need to fit into one prescribed life. Instead, I wanted to learn from and contribute to the diverse cultures and communities around me. My goal became clear: to build a private practice where others could feel empowered to create lives that truly reflected who they are.
Connections Reimagined Therapy was founded in 2024, shortly after I graduated. While my training in marriage and family therapy provided a strong clinical foundation, I knew I wanted to offer more—additional resources and a deeply systemic perspective. I partnered with Miguel Garcia, LMSW, a passionate social worker dedicated to community care. Together, we created a practice grounded in inclusivity and an understanding of the environmental, social, economic, cultural, and relational factors that shape our clients’ experiences and therapeutic outcomes.
Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of being mentored and supported by extraordinary people who have helped shape both my professional journey and my personal growth. I know I am only at the beginning of what there is to learn. Every day, I feel grateful to walk alongside my clients as we explore their connections and navigate life together. This practice was built with community, respect, and love—and this is only the beginning of our story. I’m excited to see where it leads next.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a challenging journey so far. Creating a business that provides a space for people to prioritize their mental health and their relationships when so much of our focus is on what going on in our communities and homes is difficult but also highlights how necessary it is. Often people are deterred from seeking therapy because of cost, time available, stigmas around mental health issues and finding a therapist that they connect with. We are constantly working on finding ways to make therapy more accessible to our communities. We offer in-person or virtual sessions with sessions available in the evenings and Saturdays. We understand how important it is for clients to be comfortable in how they express themselves and offer Spanish speaking therapists to help with some of the language barriers that exist. Therapy can be expensive out of pocket so in addition to our set rates we offer a sliding scale option for clients with special financial needs. And as of recently, I have started to accept clients with insurance.
In a market that can feel saturated and competitive, we still believe that therapy is for everyone and work hard at providing a space for our community to feel heard, safe and supported.

What does success mean to you?
I think success looks different for everyone. We are all coming from different upbringings, lifestyles and experiences so there isn’t just one answer. In the same way there are a multitude of ways to reach success. For me, I have always thought that I will know when I have achieved my success when I am doing what I have always wanted to do, helping people and their loved ones understand themselves and their relationships. When my clients feel that they have the tools to navigate their emotions and various connections, recognize their own strengths and have the resources they need, I feel successful. It isn’t a number of clients or amount of financial gain for me. It can potentially happen in every single session with each of my clients.
