Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Stephen Jung.
Hi Dr. Stephen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
2007 is when I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where I found my passion for sports medicine and music as well.
I was so interested on the holistic approach and the natural way of healing, that I decided to become a sports medicine chiropractor. I graduated from Texas Chiropractic College in 2014 and began practicing across different clinics in Houston, and shortly thereafter I had the blessing to treat many hi9h profile people within the sports, acting, and music industry.
But what is so crazy about this story is that I am also a hip hop musician on the side? lol.
While I was in undergraduate school in Austin, I decided that I wanted to pursue music as a full time career, and had a love for music ever since I used to freestyle in front of my friends on the way to our basketball games. I decided that my stage name would be two last letters of my last name JU, and is an acronym which stands for “Just Underestimated”, which I feel like everyone can relate to.
I also had a 6pm curfew all the way until high school, and my parents would never let me go out, therefore I would just dress up, and start performing in front of my mirror and act like I was giving a full blown performance.
In 2008 I started doing shows, opening up for well-known Houston artists such as Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, Paul, Zro and the list goes on. In addition, I would perform at the annual Korean Festival since 2010.
Recently I finally made the move to open up my own clinic with my wife and named it ASAP Rehab and Performance which has been such a huge blessing, and I thank God everyday f0r this.
The irony behind all this, is that all the rappers that I Used open up for are now my actual friends, and people who I have songs with currently through my distribution company So South.
Long story short, you have to manifest your dreams and imagination at all times.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to get to the point of where I’m at today, and have no regrets I believe there is no easy route in life, you just have to endure all the hardships, which God implants for a reason to develop discipline and character.
I do have to say though my mom is my biggest supporter, and also was a good stress along my career path lol. Love you mom. Btw, my dad still does not know that I Rap till this day, haha.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am co-owner of my clinic along with my wife Dr. Mechelle Tran, where we operate a chiropractic clinic and specialize in sports medicine and dry needling techniques.
I feel as though what separates us from other clinics is that we integrate different treatment protocols into one session, and we specify important things that you need to be doing outside clinic, everything we do here is a 2-way street, definitely gotta meet us halfway ie. stretching.
There is more to it than just getting your body realigned when it comes to proper chiropractic care. A physician has to really focus on the soft tissue component of the body and biomechanic modification to alleviate the pain generators in a more effective manner..
I am just proud and blessed to see my clinic progress the way it did all in a matter of a year, and give big thanks to the man upstairs, my family, friends, and last but not least Instagram. Lol.
Our treatment model is definitely more soft tissue and sports medicine based, my partner Dr. Mechelle Tran specializes in pregnancy and pediatric chiropractic care (yes babies and kids need to get chiropractic treatment as well. just obviously not in an aggressive fashion lol
We also have our good associate and colleague Dr. Peter Reyes who is a great addition to the team, a great doctor, and has one of the funniest skits that anyone can relate to.
We have also my Licensed massage therapist Cody Le, and Rigo Cortez who is also one of my top soft tissue specialists. Liza my front desk is also an integral part of our clinic since she is the face of it all.
Please follow our page @asap_chiro, and please come get some of this good work in sometime, just make sure to contact my front desk at 832-812-6045, or email us @ asaphoustonchiro@gmail.com and we will get you feeling like a brand new person in no time!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Number one wash your hands. Number two, don’t let a crisis or virus leave you in constant fear to the point where you don’t wanna leave your house. This is not our first rodeo.
Once a person experiences a form a stress, they have conditioned their body to the point where it knows nothing but the stress response which is call the fight or flight response. If all your body knows is stress, then literally your other systemic functions start to shut down ie. immune system, Gi system, respiratory system. etc….
In addition, I feel like everyone forgot how to breathe because of the mask. No, I am not against the mask but breathing is such a vital component of the body that can help alleviate so much stress and allow a better function of living. If a person does not know how to breathe correctly, the diaphragm has become restricted and can actually cause a whole array of back problems and the list can go on.
Please breathe and do not stress. No stress, lol.
