Exploring Life & Business with Sydney Huynh of The Bep Teahouse at Grant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Huynh

Hi Sydney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up as a first-generation Vietnamese American, it was challenging to figure out my true calling. Through years of exploring various jobs, I’ve come to a profound realization: the essence of the American dream lies in the belief that we can be anything we aspire to be. Sounds cliché right? As life progresses, many people seem to lose that spark they once had and give up on pursuing their passion.

Despite balancing a full-time job and college, I have always sought ways to nurture my passion, making a conscious effort to carve out time for creativity. A prime example of this is my drive in creating innovative boba recipes at home for my family, which not only served as a creative outlet but also fostered moments of joy and togetherness.

It has been my dream to open up my boba shop one day. And that dream is about to come true. Through trials and tribulations, I have invested countless hours and learned invaluable lessons along the way. My hope is that the community will enjoy this dream as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to life for them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has not been without its challenges; at times, it has felt as though I was forging my own path from the ground up. It took me numerous years to learn how money works and how to effectively save money. For example, working long hours to have money first and the next step was to figure out how to make that income work for me. Step by step I learned from my mistakes and grasped at every opportunity that came my way. As Theodore Roosevelt once said “Nothing worth having comes easy.” I strive to remind myself of this and often reflect on it during challenging moments. But that is what keeps me going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
With endless possibilities in the boba tea industry, our brand proudly offers high-quality organic beverages made with USA-sourced boba. The Bep Teahouse stems from paying homage to our Vietnamese roots by introducing Vietnamese inspired flavors. It is also a way for our loved ones to enjoy home away from home and it boldly introduces our culture to everyone as well. Our commitment to using USA boba sets us apart as the first to do so in Houston, allowing us to bring fresh flavors and authentic experiences to our customers. We have an exceptionally diverse menu, featuring an array of drinks, from vibrant fruit teas to unique specialty drinks, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy. We cannot wait for our community to join us and experience the rich flavors and warmth of our culture.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Growing up in a Asian immigrant household, things always had a different traditional perspective. I was always taught to be adverse to risks and to always take the more comfortable route. As the years went by, I learned to embrace my culture while also challenging it, to be exposed to new things in order to grow. Breaking that generational tradition was difficult, I had to think outside the box and work with what I have. All of that changed this year when I decided to just go for it. I finally made the bold decision to pursue my dream of opening a boba shop. I invested my hard-earned savings into this boba shop to build it from the ground up. Although the process has presented many difficult challenges, I would do it all over again. I chose to bet on myself and redefine what it means to honor my values while forging my own path.
