Today we’d like to introduce you to Tearranny Fanner-Jacobs.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my journey in trucking during the pandemic. I love to read and wanted to know about the trucking industry, so I began educating myself on it. It was not until this year that I wanted to step out on faith and do it all while still learning and gaining enough knowledge to better myself. I come from a background of strong independent women and take pride in having my grandmother, mother, and aunts to look up to. My hard-work ethic comes from my grandfather which is why I named my business after him. My grandfather was a hardworking man who believed in taking care of his family. I lost my grandfather three years ago to Alzheimer’s and I wanted to find a way to honor his memory. Growing up I saw him work extremely hard with no days off and that is what I admired most about him. He never complained or gave up, not one time. That is where I get my drive and determination. I am a mother, wife, college student, full-time employee and now, business owner. I hope to be an example and inspiration to young women by showing them that anything is possible. The sky is the limit.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Establishing a business is not easy, especially when you are investing your own money to get started. I had to educate myself on business credit and several types of funding available for small business owners while establishing my brand and determining what services to offer. It took me a while to figure out what works best for me, how I wanted to run my business and the hiring model I would use to add additional employees down the line once I am established. I also struggled with trying to maintain full-time employment as well as being a student in school. It is never easy trying to get your business off the ground especially if you are pursuing other goals as well.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a minority owned independent truck dispatcher. I specialize in finding the best rates and loads for owner-operators and small fleets. I also specialize in helping carriers with administrative support and factoring service to ensure that the carrier is paid in a timely manner. What sets me apart from others is my strong background in customer service and my work ethic. With my dispatching services the standard competitive rate is charged per load. The reduced rate ensures that the carrier’s trucks will make money. I believe in complete transparency and majority of the line- haul going to the truck. My hours of operation are Monday – Sunday from 8am-5pm I will take calls beyond 5pm if my carrier needs me.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
My plans are to become a broker, expand my existing services, add new services, hire employees as we grow and sponsor a conference with industry professionals.
